Chuck -3x16 -"Chuck vs. the Tooth"-Discuss/Grade <SPOILERS>

Welcome once again to another Chuckday. We are moving into our last month of new episodes. I am hoping for a renewal, but I haven't heard any news on a decision. But with as good as this show is, I would think the NBC brass would have to be complete idiots not to renew it for another season. And given the Jay Leno Show mess, that doesn't leave me with a lot of optimism.

Concerned that Chuck's turning unstable, Beckman orders him to undergo psychiatric treatment. Christopher Lloyd guest stars.

Okey-doke, I will see you all after the show airs on the west coast. See you then and don't forget the spare plutonium.

Was there not a new episode last week? I worked last Monday and just assumed that I had missed a new episode, and I've been getting pissed because it hasn't been put On Demand yet!

I'm dumb.

Arg, I hate when I miss the little details when I update thread title.

:sigh:

If possible, could a mod please update the thread title?

The link in my sig will always take you to the latest episode of Chuck.

Now THAT'S more like it! Chuck shooting Shaw again in the first few minutes of the episode automatically makes this a five star affair. :D

This episode hit all the right notes and advanced our characters in the process. I love that they're setting up what looks to be another series of arcs (Shaw being alive, Ellie getting played by the Ring and what I'm hoping will be more than a one episode return for Anna). I'm kind of conflicted about the Morgan/Anna subplot--I'm glad that Morgan manned up and realized what Anna was doing. On a somewhat related note, seeing Beckman at home woken up by Chuck and his dreams had me .

I had no idea Christopher Lloyd was still acting and really enjoyed his dry psychiatrist character. Hoping he'll become a recurring character which would make sense given Chuck's mental health issues.

I hope that NBC gives this show another year to wrap things up as has been rumored.

I really didn't care for this episode. These dreams came out of nowhere, and I'm tired of them throwing Chuck under the bus. He saves the world every damn week. Just let him do his job.

Here's hoping!

I think Morgan's really been shining this season, and seeing good ol' Doc Brown was good stuff. I wonder how the matter of the Intersect melting Chuck's brain is going to be handled, though. Should be interesting.

I'm normally pretty up on it myself, but it was a crazy week at work, so I let some things slip by.

I liked this episode a lot. There was a lot of great action and wonderful set-ups for what is yet to come.

I like that Ellie is finally getting dragged into this, that Morgan has some confidence and the intersect isn't all "cool kung fu moves" anymore. I like the sense of threat, instead of all the will they/won't they garbage.

Re: Chuck -3x16 -"Chuck vs. the Tooth"-Discuss/Grade <SPOILERS>

I enjoyed this one. Of course, I have yet to see an episode of Chuck that I haven't.

Given how Chuck has been getting rather settled in to being a spy, it makes sense that the Intersect is settling into his subconscious and all that information is beginning to affect his dreams. So I can buy him putting disconnected imagery together via the Intersect in his dreams. It's not really all that different from "flashing".

Casey was a gem in this episode. Him tranq-ing Morgan at the symphony was a LOL moment. And his beating Sarah to appealing to the doctor to see and help Chuck shows how much he has evolved from the handler waiting for the kill order of season 1. He's gone from merely tolerating Chuck to being one of his best friends and willing to do nearly anything for him. And losing none of his grizzled demeanor in the process. On top of that, he and Morgan are turning into one hell of an unlikely comic team.

And it is very ominous having the Ring use Ellie to reach her father. She's the weakest link of Chuck's inner circle, in that she's the only one still in the dark. I think she is going to have a big eye-opening moment in a couple of episodes, as she is going to have to find out the truth about her family. At this point, it is more dangerous for her NOT to know. And, boy oh boy, is she ever going to be pissed to find out she is the last to know that her father is a CIA scientist and her own little brother is an agent himself. When she finds out that Awesome has known for over a year now and that not only does Morgan know, but he is an agent now as well, there will be hell to pay in the Bartowski neighborhood. She's going to really be hurt as she has thought of herself as being more important to Chuck than that. She won't see it as her brother trying to protect her from all this big stuff happening around her, as Chuck has seen it the last three years. At least, not at first.

I loved seeing Anna Woo's return, but found it to be something of a waste. We all knew that Morgan has progressed without needing her to illustrate it. She could have been a much better use to the overall story than this. Maybe by having her new boyfriend fall onto either the Ring's or Team Bartowski's radar and using their past connection as a way in. Or she should have been in spy-school thanks to Casey. Something. This seems like such a waste. Although, it DID provide for just the right level of creepy from Jeffster.

In conclusion, I am giving this episode a Big Mike. Everything was great, it just didn't leave me with a "YEAH!" feeling as many other episodes have done. And with just three episodes left this season, I am leaving room for improvement and expecting to use it.

ETA: Make that two episodes. As it appears they are combining the last two episodes into a two hour season finale. And yes, season. Everything is pointing to Chuck being renewed for a fourth season at the NBC upfronts next Monday. My fingers are still crossed though until official word comes out.

I wonder: Is it really the intersect that is messing with Chuck's mind, or the trauma of having shot and killed Shaw? That was a big deal for Chuck. You would expect him to have trouble coping with the fact that he finally killed someone . . . .

That was my supposition as well. I really, really doubt that Shaw's still alive. I could be wrong, of course, but...

Wowza! What an episode! It really seemed to channel the wit and excitement from the early seasons. Speaking of seasons 1 and 2, it was great to see incompetent Chuck again with his wild flailing while on the psychoanalytic.

I think the newest plot seems a tiny bit forced but I think most of that has to do with the fact that I'm a bit sick of The Ring and other CIA splinter cells. I love the fact that Ellie is going to find out about Chuck soon. Also, I could have sworn they didn't have money for another set of appearances by Scott Bakula but his return seem imminent now!

And finally.: we have Shaw. Shaw, shaw, shaw. Good to see the anti-Chuck is alive and well, ready to be defeated once again. At least I hope he's alive and well; He was just so sinister once the Ring turned him.

And to think I was losing hope in Chuck after the last two episodes. I really wish this isn't a one-off and they keep up this caliber of work.

BTW, do we think the psychiatrist is a ring operative? Seemed a bit sinister IMHO.

I think they were trying to play him off as a Ring operative at first. But if he were, then the Ring would be all over Chuck.

I went Big Mike. Good episode, didn't blow me away or anything... but good. I just recently read Dune (finally! And by read, I mean listened to the audio book), otherwise I'd have missed the 'fear is the mind-killer' line... Kind of makes me wonder how many geek references I miss on this show. God knows I catch a ton of 'em... Probably comic book stuff if I were to guess.

A good development that will give them fodder for episodes to fill out another season - and yeah, this show is probably getting renewed. It was a bit strained - was it so hard for everyone to believe that Chuck's dreams might be legit? After all, they trust the intersect, which is essentially hallucinations. But overall, I like this new direction and it sure beats manufactured UST.
