NHL Discussion - 2009-2010 Season

Things looking pretty good so far. Holy shit.

Edit - 2nd Period closes with things a bit closer to even, but still, a two-goal lead at this point is good for Montreal. They almost always win when they lead going into third.

FUCK YEAH!

Sidney Crosby may be God, but Jaroslav Halak is Chuck Norris.

Let's bring Lord Stanley's Cup home, boys.

QFT. It's been since 1993... and it was the Habs back then, too.

Loved that game. Nice trade for Brian from the Devils... I'll bet NJ is regretting that one tonight!

Halak the inpenetrable vs. Sid the Kid. Great effort. I love both teams but it's nice to see the underdog win. And MTL played so well...

The Habs were the underdogs against the Caps. The Habs and Pens were clearly evenly matched, and that with all Pens healthy. (Except, probably, Staal.) Every defensive team made the Pens look bad this year, really. Look at their records against defensive teams-- 0-6-0 against NJ, for example. Lost to the Wild. Struggled with TB, Buffalo, and Boston. That they took the Habs to seven was nothing short of a miracle.

And, for any Leafs fans out there-- How the foggy fucking hell did you manage to disguise a complete frelling dud like Ponikarovsky as a twenty goal scorer? He scored TWO total goals in all his time playing on a line with Evgeni fucking Malkin! :cardie:

Finally, though it stuns me to say so... I'm actually almost rooting for the Flyers to pull off the epic upset in Game 7. (Maybe that'll jinx 'em, though. Win-win situation, I suppose. :p)

Geologists have confirmed that there has been a seismic event tilting the entire state of Pennsylvania eastward, as Penguins fans flee the city of Pittsburgh to jump on the bandwagon for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Good on the Habs, Washington and Pittsburgh. I see no reason why they can't go to the Cup Finals now.

I don't really follow hockey at all, unless there is some compelling reason to. IN this case, I am amused by the 8th seed in that conference getting to play the 6th or 7th seed for the conference championship. That has to be one of the coolest post-season line-ups ever!!

Surely not! I thought the Battle of Pennsylvania was particularly vitriolic on both sides?

Abso-fuckin'-lutely never. You'd be hard pressed to find two US hockey teams that hate each other as bitterly as the Pens and Flyers.

As I said yesterday, I'm almost rooting for Boston to blow the 3-0 series lead tomorrow just for the historicalness of it all. That doesn't mean I won't be rooting for the Habs to sweep the Flyers afterwards, though.

Isn't that kind of the same as if Boston/New York fans going to the other side if the other team is doing well. Same with SF/LA fans? I say Blasphemy to that.

It actually happened once before.

In '06 the lower seeded teams in the West won every series, save one in the Semis. The Conference Finals were #6 vs. #8, with #8 advancing to the SCF.

Yeah, that'd only be the third time in NHL history that it's happened if they pull it off, right?

Personally, though, I'd rather see Boston win it and then sweep the Habs, but YMMV, of course. ;)

That's never going to happen. For starters, Pens fans aren't going to support the Flyers and, if they did, we'd shoot them as soon as they cross Harrisburg, so they'd never make it on the bandwagon.

And they would, too. Philly sports fans hospitalized Santa Claus. Twice.

Honestly, since I enjoy an exaggerated reputation, I don't think I'll dispute that.

Flyers were down 3 games to 0, came back to win 3. In game 7, they were down 3 goals to 0, came back to score 3. Then Simon Gagne makes the game and the series 4-3. Now that is amazing.

First time in 35 years a team has come from down 0-3 to win a series. I think it's the first time since the 1988 Oilers that a team has overcome a 3 goal deficit to win game 7.

I humbly rescind this clip I presented to the Capitals...

...and offer it to its rightful owners. The words "Epic Fail" do not even begin to describe what has transpired today.
