Movies you love but (most) everyone else hates

Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom. I think I'm the only one that would rank this movie on the same level as Raiders of the Lost Ark & The Last Crusade. I think what I like best about it is that it feels the most authentically like a 1930s serial, complete with lots of politically incorrect bits.

Temple of Doom is actually my favorite film in the Indiana Jones series, so you're not the only one who sings the film's praises. Yes, Willie is whiny and obnoxious, but she serves as the perfect counterpoint to Indy and his attitude throughout the film, as well as to Short Round and the way he looks at things. She's also the only 'Indy Girl' to serve as a counterpoint to Indy (Marion and Elsa serve as 'parallels' to him, in that they represent different facets of who he is and serve to bring into focus different parts of his personality that don't usually come into play... 'Crystal Skull' does a particularly good job of manifesting this)

Speaking of Crystal Skull, it's another movie that I absolutely loved that most people don't. I particularly enjoyed the interplay between Indy, Marion, and Mutt, and the way that Shia played off of Harrison and Karen was spot-on in terms of his character, and reminded me very much of Short Round.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Superman Returns
Batman & Robin
(although, I don't know if it counts as the reason I love it is because it is so bad)

Why do people think KOTCS is good

Why do you think it isn't good?

The reason that I personally like KotCS is that, to me, it is perfectly in keeping with the tone and overall theme of the previous films, but doesn't suffer from the problem of being simply the 'same old scenario' the way that Last Crusade does to a small degree. It also stands out to me because it, like Temple of Doom, deals with themes and material that are very different, overall, from the themes and material explored by Raiders and Crusade, but without feeling like they are 'out of place' with the rest of the series.

Ok I'm being harsh on KOTCS personally it was good Harrison Ford was great as always it was because of Indy 4 I became a Indy fan I wasn't before I love all the Indy films.

Why do people think KOTCS is good

Because I do. Why do you think the shitty movies you posted are good?

Why do you keep harping on this point in this thread? We are here to post what flicks we like but others don't. I am fully aware many do not like Indy 4. That's why I listed it. Sure, it can bring about discussion, but the way you are phrasing your posts suggest that we are wrong for liking it.

Not to get into the whole thing, because it's an argument generator, but Reloaded all but flat out told the audience that Zion and the "real world" were all part of the Matrix.
The only piece of evidence for that is Neo's single action of deactivating the sentinels and mind-entering Mobil Ave. The alternative explanations to the "blue matrix" theory - real-world magic, the wireless router and some combination of the two being the most prominent - are just as plausible. So you can opine in favor of the "blue matrix" theory, but to state that it's "all but flat-out" presented as fact is rubbish.

"Wireless router" is a really bad explanation, though. Unconscionably so. Neo has a box in his head that translates his thoughts into digital form and another box that broadcasts them as radio waves of sufficient power to either 1)reach Machine City from miles underground or, 2)slightly more plausibly (but still terribly implausibly) jam all possible higher echelon signals that either control the dependent Sentinel computer or would tell an independent Sentinel computer that it is receiving bad instructions from an unauthorized source. That Neo can mimic higher echelon signals I can grant, because he's the One and all that jazz, so doing this from within the Matrix is plausible; but blotting out the spectrum with a head-jammer in the real world is kind of preposterous.

The other options are a program-Neo existing in the Matrix and protecting him like a guardian angel, which doesn't make sense; other programs protecting him, which is dramatically unsound and also doesn't make sense; and maybe something deriving from quantum entanglement, which is bizarre and extrinsic and never mentioned.

What's really hilarious is that when Neo gets to Machine City, they opt for a wired connection instead. WTF is up with that? Heck, why does he even need to go to Machine City?

Constantine. Pretty faithful to the original comic. Bothers some people because it is a "pro" religious film. The actor who played the crazy Russian cosmonaut in the movie Armageddon is a tattooed Satan.

Waterworld
. Especial the super expanded version. No, from a science view point it doesn't make sense. But TPTB did create a interesting world right out of a golden age sci-fi novel.

The Postman. Another Kevin Costner movie. It was written by David Brin, nice.

Mission to Mars. The last five minutes sucked big time, but other than the ending a great, mostly scientifically accurate film. Love the "Mars Direct" hardware.

Event Horizon. Actual scared me.

I'm going to go out on a limb here but.........Howard the Duck.
Evil Monster: "I only want you for your body"
Lea Thompson: "Like I haven't heard that before."

North. Damn it, it's good, goofy fun. It can be characterized as slightly racist, viz. American Indians
I believe the reference you refer to is towards Eskimos not America Indians. Two separate groups.

I'm having trouble thinking of films that haven't already been mentioned.

The Postman
- Post-apocalyptic militia fun, what's not to like? I will admit that the end was a bit of a letdown.

Event Horizon - Scared me too, is it really disliked?

KOTCS - Good fun, unfairly maligned imho.

Troy - Not a bad retelling of the Illiad sans gods. My opinion may be influenced by the fact that I watched this in a university dorm and my knowledge of greek mythology was impressive enough to get me into the pants of an impressionable freshman on the girls rowing team :shifty:

Daredevil (Ben Affleck was ultimately miscast, but Michael Clarke Duncan, Colin Farrell, and the overall story more than make up for the shortcomings in Affleck's portrayal)
The Director's cut is actually one of the better superhero films out there. There's no 'pan to the log fire' love scene for a start.

I wish they'd given Farrell his 'fuckin' costume' though.

Bicentenniel Man-Not exactly how I would have made it, but its has a lot of the original intent in it.

Buckaroo banzai- OK, my wife can watch almost any Sc-fi I throw at her (she's not what I'd call a fanatic...like myself) I simply cannot get her to like this movie...and no else I know shares my interest in it. I think its hilarious!!!

The Core- I modern retelling of all those 50s, "we'll build a rocket and fly off the earth" movies, or the "mole machine" movies. I just thought it was a good balance between science and humor.

Mission to Mars- Ok the dialogue isn't the best...but I really thought it was a mostly serious story about a mission to mars...also a wish fulfillment..we all want life on mars right?

Red Planet- Another serious story about a flight to mars! What were they thinking...its not really a popcorn type movie..some good actors in it too.

AI: Could have been better...but I view this movie as a thought experiment rather than a movie. I can understand how people may dislike it.

I was going to say ST:Nemesis, but if you look at the movie ratings of people who actually saw it, this scored quite well. It also held the previous record for ST DVD sales before the monolithic ST09.

The Time Machine: The remake...ok this is the first time I have ever mentioned it in public...my family and I LIKE this movie. The definitive version has yet to be made in my book...but this was much better than I expected.

I'm sure there are many more:

I had to grit my teeth when I saw STV mentioned here..so I just want to add how horrible it really IS!! Thank you..whew, I feel better now.

Edit: wait...there are only a few modern SF movies worse than STV..Armageddon, Battlefield:Earth, Doom, Ice Pirates, and some "b" movies
