US network MTV has ordered a 10-episode season of Skins, eight months after acquiring international formats rights to the UK teen drama from All3Media International.
E1 Entertainment came onboard in December to coproduce a pilot, and the Canadian producer-distributor will now make the full season with Company Pictures and Stormdog. The latter was set up by show creator Brian Elsey and his son Jamie Brittain to produce the original series.
MTV confirmed that the new show, scheduled to air next January, will be set in Baltimore and that teenagers will write the scripts, as with the UK series. The original, which aired on diginet E4 in the UK, follows a group of hard-drinking and drug-taking teens.
So as E4's version goes in to series 5 it looks like we're getting a US version. I don't see Skins working on a non-premium cable network, but I guess we'll see how it goes.
