TOS book recommendations

I recently was able to find just about every star trek TOS book published by pocket books from #1. The Motion Picture novelization all the way to #97 In the Name of Honor.
I've read everything up to "Yesterday's Son" so far.
I'm going on a vacation in a few weeks, and was hoping to get some good recommendations of what I could take from this span of novels.

My Enemy, My Ally is among the best in the numbered series. There's also the ST II and III novelizations, although you may have gotten to those already.

ya, i got to the star trek II novel, which was actually pretty good. I assume McIntyre's other trek movie novelizations are pretty good.

Crossroad is one of my all-time favourites. A rebel ship from the dark, evil future of the Federation comes back in time.

I thought Chain of Attack and The Final Nexus were great. A gateway to god-knows-where strands the Enterprise in hostile territory.

My Enemy, My Ally and The Romulan Way are superb. The Rihannsu are what the TV Romulans should have been.

The Final Reflection and Pawns and Symbols are both brilliant looks at two sets of very different Klingons to the guys in TNG and DS9.

Prime Directive is one of the best ever. Kirk and co are split up after a disaster of a mission.

The Kobayashi Maru is a nice series of flashbacks to Kirk, Sulu, Chekov and Scotty doing 'that' test at the academy.

Dreadnought and Battlestations - terrorists (or are they?) seize a prototype Starfleet warship.

Ishmael is very different but a must for Spock fans.

Final Frontier is the secret first mission of the (as yet unnamed) 1701 under Captain April and George Kirk.

Captain's Daughter is a great Sulu story.

Vonda McIntyre's original Trek novels, The Entropy Effect and Enterprise: The First Adventure are very enjoyable too!

Yeah, i'll be taking Final Frontier. I keep hearing good things about it. Crossroads sounded interesting.
Anyone know if Double, Double or Assignment: Eternity were any good?

I know I've got Double, Double but I can't remember the slightest thing about it.

^ Unfortunately, I've not read any of those.

I'm not sure which novels fall within the range you've specified, but I recommend: My Enemy, My Ally, The Romulan Way, and The Kobayashi Maru. All three are excellent, especially the latter two.

In the Name of Honor is a very good novel and actually my favorite TOS novel.

Double, Double is decent.

Mudd in your Eye and Vulcan's Glory are mediocre.

I recall Assignment: Eternity as being decent but inferior to the Khan duology by Cox.

Vulcan's Glory is a fantastic story and perfect for a vacation read.

Double, Double is best if you are familiar with and like "What Are Little Girls Made Of?"

Another that I remember liking is Memory Prime.

So far I've narrowed my list down to 6 books. "Final Frontier", "In the Name of Honor", "Vulcan's Glory", "Prime Directive", "Crossroad" and "The Kobyashi Maru."
Now I'd just like to nail it down to 2 or 3 books for my vacation. I'll have plenty of time to read, too. Usually during the evenings after the day has wined down with the family.

the other nice thing about having books #1 through #97 is that, for me, it gives me plenty of new trek reading material to hold me over through the summer drought of no new star trek reading material.

Now i changed my mind. I figured out what order the books go in, based off of the voyages of imagination book. So i'll be starting with "Vulcan's Glory" and working my way forward. I've never read any of these books so it should be a fun time. I'm sure I'll hit a clunker every now and then.

Final Frontier is set in 2244 (or 2188 going by the old timeline the book uses), years and years before Vulcan's Glory (another book I very much enjoyed). The only bits set later are the short and fairly uninteresting framing story (right after "City on the Edge of Forever", IIRC).

Almost all the TOS books are standalone (and many contradict each other!), so whichever order you read them in you won't miss out. Enjoy!
