Star trek online referral program

OK i hope this is OK with Ded and the mods, i was thinking about stating a referral thread for Star trek online....just like the buddy key thing the referral thing allows people to get access to the Star trek online game demo and if they sub for 1 month then the person who referred them gets extra in game stuff.

So how about we start one in here....everybody already in ST online will have 5 referrals to give away, and even if people don't sign up after trying the demo at least they get to try the game for free.

So anybody looking to try the STO demo just has to Pm somebody here who are already on STO with your email and they will receive a email linking them to the the demo.

Assuming that OK with the mods.

Don't be afraid to give away your five, either; if the recipient subscribes you get another one to give out, or if 14 days pass you get them back too.

Hmm... sounds like a good plan. I'm not really that keen on the referral program - not everyone has knows five friends who like Star Trek AND would want to subscribe to an MMO. If it were something like Halo on the Xbox 360, or Pro Evo, Call of Duty, or whatever, I could have hundreds signed up in an afternoon. But a Star Trek PC MMO? That's a tall order for a lot of people.

The exclusive bonuses add insult to injury, mainly because the two most desirable ones, which are also the hardest to obtain (holographic bridge officer and 'AGT' Galaxy) are things from the shows. If they wanted to give away a Cryptic-designed 'über-ship' with boosted stats, or something like the exclusive 'Tribble of Borg', which isn't derived from something specifically seen on-screen, then I'm sure it'd be less of a sore point with players. For example, I wonder how it'd go down if Cryptic decided to do a similar thing, with the Excelsior-class as the exclusive. I'm pretty sure there'd be mass outrage, and not unreasonably so, either.

That's my take on it, anyway - IMO, I reckon that Cryptic would do well to implement a policy that 'if it's taken directly from the series, it should be readily accessible to all'. Sure, reward people for brand loyalty and helping the company - that's good business sense, and they'd be shooting themselves in the feet not to. But seeing as the bulk of people on STO are Trek fans first (who want to be able to play around with all the elements of the Trek-verse), and die-hard MMO gamers second (if at all!), it's a shame that certain fan-favourite aspects of the shows are made unobtainable to most subscribers.

Same goes for the exclusive/pre-order bonuses - thankfully I forked up the cash, and managed to get the TOS-Constitution and Borg BOff, but I'm sure there are a ton of players out there who missed out through no fault of their own, and would jump at the chance to get them. Maybe through the C-Store at a later date - who knows?

They've turned the pre-order bonuses into retail bonuses. You still get the Borg BO and Constitution if you get the game from the retailers to which they were linked. There are some bugs with it, though, so if it doesn't unlock you have to contact cryptic billing and they will unlock it for you (but you may need to provide them with proof of purchase.)

Yeah, this sounds good. Lets see how the thread develops and hope the thread/forum doesn't become a spam fest!

I've heard that they've announced that the referral bonus is a Galaxy X class T5 ship awarded to the referring player.

Actually, that's the reward for getting FIVE signups; that and the "Master Recruiter" title. The rewards for one signup are:

A new title: Recruiter.
An exclusive Holographic Bridge Officer (works with Federation and Klingon players).
400 Cryptic Points.

That's about $5 worth of Cryptic Points. Each additional friend who signs up for at least a month gets you another 400 CP.

BTW, Excelsior, people can still get those. If you buy from Gamestop you get the Connie. If you buy from Amazon, you get the Borg Boff. There have been some issues with Amazon screwing it up so people don't get it automatically, but if they contact Cryptic they'll fix it.

Oh, that's cool.

Wonder if they'll ever do that with things like the player Liberated Borg that people got for becoming Lifers at start-up. They've revived lifetime subs, but without the bonuses that came with them.

Back to the referral front, I've finally got the game up and running - just went for a joyride in my Constitution, the USS Endeavour (NCC-101700 - my rather cheap attempt at a 'nod' to canon... ;) ). I've got referrals and I ain't afraid to use 'em, so if anyone wants one, feel free to drop me a PM! :bolian:

Ok I know I'm new but I've got some of these referrals available if anyone wants them, either pm me here or email me at ysjclarke @ yahoo. co. uk (obviously remove spaces) I believe this games truely great and it'd be lovely to see more people come to play it.

Yes, most likely eventually. How long depends on how exclusive and how much it cost. That particular item cost a lot of money and was available for only a short time, so it will be a long time before they offer it through the C-Store. It might even be one they never offer EXACTLY, but offer something similar.

Contrast with the Captain's Table, which is a perk all Lifetime subs get, regardless of when they sign up; that one's going to be offered also to people with 400 days of paid subscription time past, as a Veterans Reward. It was expensive, but not particularly exclusive, and at 400 days you've spent close to the same money.

Then there's the things like the Amazon Borg. They can't offer that through an in-game means as long as Amazon is still offering it as an exclusive, but since you don't pay any extra money for it, they can if Amazon ever stops participating (I don't know what the details of those contracts are, I doubt it costs them any money but I don't know.) They can, however, offer another similar Borg boff, and in fact they do so as an Easter Egg in one of the Special Task Forces. There's still value in the Amazon one, as you can thereby have TWO Borg officers.

Oooh, holographic BO! I may actually try to recruit for that. I'm not big on the Galaxy X, but I'd love to have the photonic BO.

Soooo...

Anyone schill any merchandise yet? ;)

If not, remember Rule of Acquistion #112 and persevere!

...

Oh, nuts - I meant Rule #7. Forget I mentioned the other one...

Not yet, I can't bring myself to use the referral program, yet. I am not really that satisfied with the game so, even though I'm a lifer, I can't really try to push any of my friends to play a game with which I have such little confidence.

I just posted in the buddy key thread, sorry I didnt notice this one at first.

I do have referral keys to give away. PM me with an email address. :)

I'm more than willing to send out any referral keys that may be wanted as well. Don't get me wrong either, I actually enjoy helping people out in game. Not to mention replaying missions is fun. If anyone wants one then feel free to send me your email address.

However referral and demo accounts are really limited... You can do the tutorial and the first mission. You can talk in local, team, and fleet channels. You can also join a team, fleet, or accept a friend invite. Once you have a friend on your list you can PM with them.

You can't trade. You can't go past level 3. You can't invite people to party. You can't use zone chat.

I really wish they could at least do Deep Space Encounters, at least they'd have something to do after the first mission. :(

Still have a few codes to give out if anyone's interested. Check out my sig. I'll be happy to offer some in-game help any time, referral code or not. Just let me know!
