upcoming Captain's Log comics

TrekMovie announced the next three Captain's Log one-shot comics that IDW is doing, but some info got scrambled.

The next three will indeed by Pike, written by Stuart Moore, Garrett, written by Robert Greenberger, and Jellico, written by some hack with four initials (that would be me :D ).

However, J.K. Woodward, not Gordon Purcell, is doing the artwork for the Jellico one-shot that I wrote. I've even seen a bunch of the artwork. :D

My guess is that Gordon is doing Pike, but I have no idea for sure.

Anyhow, they'll be coming out between now and the end of the year, and will be made of awesome. :)

As I just finished it, I'm curious - is the Enterprise-C material from Well Of Souls going to be used in Greenberger's comic?

Sweet. Might check that out then; it'd be cool to have mental images for some of that crew.

Cool, should be fun. Since Sulu came out for the PSP Digital Comics, I should be able to get these that way.

I don't think Riker was ever officially announced as a topic, I think he was just mentioned as a possibility.

Will there only be five then, or is a sixth Riker story in the works also?

apologies to KRAD and JK Woodward about the the mixup at TrekMovie; I think the editor has corrected the news that appeared in my review of Harriman

according to IDW, five captains, five logs in this batch, but I hope there will be more

I'd love to see some of the other guest captains from DS9 and TNG get stories, like Solok, Keogh, Reynolds, Sanders, DeSoto, Cusak, Maxwell etc.

What I wrote below a modified version of something I wrote in response to a comment in the post on my blog announcing the Jellico one-shot:

I actually really liked Jellico as a character -- though not as a person. :) But he was a nice contrast to Picard, both flawed and skilled. What I liked about the dynamic in "Chain of Command" is that both Riker and Jellico were right. Jellico has his own style and had every right to implement it, but he was asking for too much too fast, especially when replacing a beloved captain who had been in place for five years. (Also, the four-shift thing was really stupid. Humans have an eight-hour circadian rhythm, and eight hours of work, eight hours of downtime, and eight hours of sleep is a very efficient system. Changing it to four six-hour shifts makes nothing like sense.)

Having said that, Riker didn't exactly cover himself in glory, either, since he should've adjusted much faster to the different style of command (something he should've been able to do, given that this wasn't his first rodeo as an XO).

Anyhow, this comic will take place prior to "Chain of Command" aboard the Cairo, and I think will please both people who think that Jellico was a pretty darned good captain and the ones who think he's a flaming asshole. Because, honestly, the character was both. :D

apologies to KRAD and JK Woodward about the the mixup at TrekMovie;
No problem, although JK did the Pike one also, according to both JK and Stuart Moore, so I don't know where poor Gordon fits into all this. :)

All of these sound wonderful. I hope they do well so we can get more. Maybe for the next round we could get Captain April, Decker (Matt and Willard), Bateson, Hernandez, Ransom, Saavik, Garth of Izar, Shelby, or Tryla Scott.

While I haven't seen any of George Freeman's art as yet, I did provide him with descriptions from Well of Souls. Paramount suggested something more action-oriented than my first premise and think I delivered not only action but a fresh look at the Nausicaans.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Klag captain's log or maybe a Mac Calhoun CL. I'd love to see KRAD & JK do the Klag one...
