Nope. it would make the original movie title refer to the PREVIOUS Starfighter.

With the sequel to TRON coming out soon, I can easily see the Last Starfighter following a similar concept.

The best thing that could possibly happen is that people could stop hoping for sequels to old movies and start hoping for new movies instead. 'Starfighter may have been ok, but it doesn't need a sequel. If it needed one, they would have made one years ago.

I thought I read that they had tried twice to do a LS sequel, once around 91 and then again some time around 98 or 99 but both times fell through due to inability to secure funding or rights issues.

Man they have one chance to do this right and get me into the theaters. They have a great concept - an ordinary man who also happens to be a video game genius is thrust into a gigantic galactic war adventure. Why not make it smart and have him help the aliens some other way - by using his brains as well as instincts in ways Centauri couldn't have imagined.
