I can see where Captaindemotion is coming from, but the movie is so good that I think it does the whole Hammer story just right.
Also, Captain demotion I must add that I didn't even know Sam Rockwell was in the movie till he came on screen! I know I'm in Taiwan but I thought I would've heard that he was in it. Weird that he wasn't in the trailers.

I liked the movie a lot - great fun, just like the first one.

But...As fond as I am of Sam Jackson playing Sam Jackson and Sam Rockwell playing Sam Rockwell, I would have rather seen them explore something different for their roles in this one. I know that Fury was based on the ULT Fury that was in turn based on Jackson, but still...

And more Scarlett would have been nice. And not just for the obvious reasons. Her character needed fleshing out a bit more, IMO.

But all in all - great movie!

    :D

Anything with Scarlett in it needs more "flesh out."

    ;)

Just got back from the Iron Man 2, midnight show at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. It was a blast and it was a great movie. Lucky us Robert Downey and John Faveroux introduced the movie, how cool is that I shot the video and just put it up on video. sorry for the crappy video but had to use my treo to capture the event, they tend to frown on people who attend films with professional camcorders.

I love this! I may have seen it 3 days ago, but to have it introduced by the star and the director and in Hollywood beats that easily!

Went to the 12:01 showing last night because I live in the States and couldn't wait any longer. I read a review this morning that complained about there being too many simultaneous plots (seven, to be exact), encumbering the film with too much weight to allow sufficient development of any of the characters. It's a common complaint with comic book movies (the X-Men movies took heat for it, and the Joel Schumacher Batman movies deserved it), and I figure it's a natural consequence of the differences inherent to the media of comics and film. It applies, but is forgivable here.

For what it's worth, I would rate my enjoyment of IM2 only slightly below that of its predecessor. The multiple plot lines were not a turn-off to me, though I agree they hampered development somewhat. My only problem with replacing Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle is a cynical expectation that, somewhere, someone will choose to see a "Y'all look alike" message and get their knickers in a twist. Johansson was delicious, Rockwell's Hammer was obsequious and oblivious (until very late), Rourke was too easily defeated (twice - though another 20-30 minutes would definitely have been overkill), and the "Ex-Wife" was hilarious. Actually, in a painful way, so is the Hammer suit-prototype seen at the Senate hearing... Probably won't see any Oscar nods, but plenty of nerdgasm to go around.

I'd love to hear what the 7 plots were.

I enjoyed it. All the New Mexico references were heartily approved of by the crowd. The Twilight trailer, however, received loud boos. :D

I just don't get why they always have to put a license plate on the front of New Mexican cars. We don't have license plates on the front of cars. Meh. I have some friends working on Thor. Looking forward to it!

^Yes, extremely frequently when featuring New Mexico.

Because it was a New Mexico plate?

But we wouldn't be able to see it if it wasn't in front. Let's face it. Backing a car up into the camera is far less dramatic. :p

I know, but they've done it so many times where they have New Mexico plates on the front. It just makes me sad. On the other hand that might have even been New Mexico, not sure. They would almost certainly know better, so it was just for the dramatic effect but meh :p . I would assume so since Thor was partially filmed and set here.

Yes, I figured about 5 to 7 min's longer for the fight with the Hammeroids, and 15 to 20 min's longer for the fight with whiplash. But that's just me. I hate final fights that end in under 9 min's.

I'm not a fan of rushed final fights either, and the Whiplash fight could have been longer, but I also hate it when fights drag out. Honestly, I thought the fight between Stark and Rhodey went on for too long.

I saw the film at midnight. It was very good, but it could have been better. Above Average.

The most exciting part of the entire movie was the first fight between Whiplash and Iron Man on the racetrack. I wasn't a big fan of the Tony dying plot since I never really got the feeling that he was any kind of danger. It should have focused entirely on his alcohol problem, but I was glad his drinking problem was there. The middle section of the movie dragged a little, but it came back with a strong finish. As usual RDJ did a great job, along with all the supporting actors. Mickey Rourke did well with what he was given. I watched Moon recently and loved it, and was very surprised to see Sam Rockwell as Hammer, which he was very funny as.

The way Happy Hogan ended his fist fight with the guard and War Machine using the "Ex-Wife" on Whiplash got the biggest laughs from the audience that I was with. The Iron Man movies have always had much better humor than the Spider-Man movies.

Now it's time to use Mandarin in Iron Man 3!

Somewhere between Average and Above Average. I thought the best scenes were Tony Stark just goofing off. Mickey Rourke was criminally underutilized. They could have made a really great villain out of him, but he comes across as very one dimensional.
