Captain Okuna The TNG Captain Jack Harkness?

I am watching the "Outrageous Okuna" and can't help but notice there are similarities between Okuna and Jack. Both are good looking. Both are con men. Both show up in a ship. Both hit on anything, although Okuna seems very much heterosexual as opposed to Jack's I'm into anything that moves. They also seem to have the same personality.

It's Okona and he was played William O Campbell, who went on to play The Rocketeer. I think if anything he was meant as the TNG version of Harry Mudd.

Of course, the difference is that no one gives a shit about Okuna, whereas Captain Jack Harkness is actually an important character.

Okuna wasn't a very smart character, and didn't come off as 'rogue-ish.' He was just annoying. On the other hand, I feel Jack Harkness seems to know his way around the universe, muti-layered, immortal(?), knows when to be serious and when to crack jokes, highly intelligent, etc...etc..etc...

Harkness was shot by a Dalek and lived (and went down trying to take down several Daleks, IIRC); Okuna would be shot...and that would have been the end of him (and possibly Okuna would have tried to run away or talk himself out his predicament).

Yeah that is my bad for spelling his name wrong in the thread title. I didn't mean to implicate that they were exactly alike but having watched all of Torchwood recently and the "Outrageous Okona" last night the similarities that I pointed out in my original post I thought that he had some of Jack's characteristics.

In terms of character they are slightly similar. But to really be the TNG equivalent of Jack, you'd have to have a minor character who proved immensely popular, went on to have a starring role in a darker more mature spin-off and be able to die repeatedly with no real ill effects.
In other words, TNG's Jack Harkness isnt Captain Okona. It's Miles O'Brien.

Yeah Teri Hatcher was hot but then she was on MacGvyer before she appeared on TNG.
