DC announces mass cancellation of animated projects

Damn. And I was just remarking to a friend how impressed I was with DC for producing so many animated films. :wtf:

They still have produced a remarkable body of work, and you should encourage your friend to peruse it. GL (the series) and Young Justice are still under development on the TV side as of last report, so there's that at least.

I own almost all of'em. And I enjoyed the Green Lantern and Wonder Woman movies, but New Frontier is far and away my favorite.

I've owned almost all of them too.

The only one that really falls short IMO is New Frontier. Once you get past the "look, it's SILVER AGE" factor, it has the weakest acting and dialogue, IMO, and the most ill-defined plot.

CoTE is the best, IMO, followed by Public Enemies.

I believe that I own all of them except for "Superman/Batman: Public Enemies" which I just haven't picked up yet and "Justice League Crisis of Two Worlds" which I didn't particularly like.

So, can someone mention what projects actually are going to be made and when, if dates have been set ?

As best we know right now: Red Hood is still online for late this year or early next. The next one in the pipe is the one that has the preview on the Red Hood DVD (Superman/Supergirl?). On the TV side, supposedly GL and Young Justice are still go, but I havent' heard any firm dates for them.

I enjoyed New Frontier immensely. It fell short of the books, but it was very well done. I wish they would do more of their epic stories like Kingdom Come or Salvation Run.

To be clear, I didn't DISlike it. I just liked the others MORE.

Canceling all that stuff is an big mistake:borg::scream:

I really don't understand their logic here: why would you release a DTV without being willing to consider long-term sales results? GL and WW sold at least as much as JL: New Frontier.
Good point. I just bought the WW animated movies last week from Amazon.uk:cool:
I would love to see JL:NF:) but to my knowledge it has not been released to Region 2 DVD(yet anyway).
I liked a lot the JL series. Not sure if thats available entirely on europe yet either.

Im sad that female superheros are somehow unpopular when it comes to movies and Tv-shows these days.
Hopefully that changes soon, if they make the live action film about Wonder Woman:bolian: (Unless they cast Megan Fox to play WW:rolleyes:...that will sink the movie for sure, because she cant act..)

Why is is that we haven't got New frontier anyway? Does anyone know why they wouldn't release that but release wonder woman straight after? Are they unsure that it would see over here?
As for us not having the new Bats and supes movie I'm not too bothered I didn't particularly like it and still have my copy of the old one.

I had always hoped that these animated movies would be able to spring board more unknown heroes like Black Canary, Buster Gold etc, people who aren't big enough yet for their own live action movies.

We don't actually know for a fact that female superheroes are unpopular. It's just that whenever one movie about a female hero underperforms, the executives jump to the conclusion that it failed because it had a female hero, rather than because of some other factor. I gather a similar thing is happening in comics lately.

^Spider-Man gets tons of publicity, and lots of people still misspell his name.

Lots of people misspell Iron Man, too. I see it spelled "Ironman" all the time.

The problem, of course, is that Superman and Batman have trained people to spell supehero names DC-style, not Marvel-style! :)
