I ran across the story that gave birth to the term Mary Sue and ended up in my favorite black hole of timesuck, TV Tropes. And it got me to thinking about Mary Sues in regular old fiction (as opposed to in fan fiction, which the lifespan of the universe limits us from fully exploring).
Who's a Mary Sue that's been masquerading as a protagonist in novel, play, film or tv?
I didn't make it all the way through this book due to the extreme Mary Sue-ishness of its protagonist and we might as well get this out of the way quickly:
Bella from Twilight with her Magical Boyfriends and strange ability to be the center of attention for no reason whatsoever.
And then there's James Bond in, well, every James Bond story ever. Devastatingly handsome, all women fall ni love with him, capable of pulling off every improbable feat while wearing a tuxedo and maintaining witty repartee.
