Desperate Situation--Which Captain Would You Want in Charge?

Zameaze

In a desperate situation, who would I want in charge? Kirk.

Who would I not want in charge? Janeway.

Who would you want? Not want?

I'd want Sisko in charge, no question. He'll do whatever it takes to get shit done and take care of his people.

Not want? Janeway. If for no other reason than she might choose to save me, or fuck us all over due to her precious holy morals.

I guess it all depends on what it will take to resolve the situation. If it's beaming down to the planet's surface to rescue an away team or talk a computer to death, it's Kirk hands down. Something requiring diplomacy, probably Picard. Going eye to eye with the Cardassians? I dare say Jellico.

I can safely say that if the desperate situation involves a dog, a sacred tree, and an errant stream of urine, I wouldn't want Archer in charge.

1.) Does it involve violating the Prime Directive? If yes, then Kirk.

2.) Does it involve anything involving dipolmacy? If yes, then Picard.

3.) Does it require an ass-kicking? If yes, then Sisko.

4.) Does it involve the Borg? If yes, then not Janeway.

5.) It is any kind of desperate situation? If yes, then not Janeway.

6.) Does it require the captain to allow himself to be sucked out into space and instantly transported back to the ship before he is killed? If yes, then Archer (no other captain had the balls to try that).

That is so true.

Desperate situation, I go with Picard.

Who would I want - Archer from season 3 and 4.
Who would I not want - Archer form season 1 and 2.

Captain Jellico. Period. The only military captain, of the 24th century, I would follow into a desperate situation.

This sums it up for me pretty well. I would venture to say that Captain Shelby would also be one I would follow into a situation dealing with Borg.

I would, however, never follow Captain Sulu. I just can't deal with his command style.

Picard. He's a very reassuring presence. Failing that, Sisko, since in a pinch he could get God to step in and save the day.

Picard. Stays cool in a crisis, has utter authority, won't jump in before thinking, and is extremely diplomatic. He'd get you safely home.

Kirk, because he doesn't believe in no-win situations and always breaks the rules to get the job done. If you're in a desperate situation and need a miracle just call Kirk. I'd go with Picard as second if the situation was a desperate diplomatic one, although he can still kick ass in tactical confrontations. Kirk's more apt to bluff or use superior (often unorthodox) tactics while Picard's more apt to use diplomacy and and an appeal to reason, although both captains use a mix of these things.

Am I in the trekverse? If so, Kirk - his main character shield is invulnerable; in the real world, he would have been dead a dozen times with some of his decisions.

Am I in the real world? Sisko, followed by Archer.

I would NOT choose in any situation Picard or Janeway - you never know when they'll commit genocide and think they made a perfectly moral choice.

Anyone but Janeway. I think she's a particularly bad captain. Her decision making skills are atrocious.

Kirk and Picard would be fine but I do think Sisko might be my top choice. And it's the opposite of Janeway, Sisko doesn't fuck around. He's very pragmatic. The loss of his wife and role of the Emissary shaped him in substantial ways.

Sisko would have ridden that Caretaker home like a surfer rides a wave.

Picard. I find his rationality unmatched compared to virtually all other Star Trek captains seen, IMO. And that's the sort of person who I would like to see in charge of desperate situations.

I don't think Sisko was so unmilitary...he knew how to fight a war.

Of the main captains, Sisko is the ONLY one I would be willing to serve under--period. Kirk comes close, but I have no reason to believe he would fully respect a woman serving with him. The rest of them I wouldn't trust.

I wouldn't want to serve under a "war commander" when it wasn't wartime.
