River's Journal--Chronicling Her Adventures With The Doctor

or..River song in Torchwood!!

Actually, if there is to be another Torchwood series/season I would love to see it set in the future. Mainly so that Jack can return and not have it feel like a cop-out after the events of Children Of Earth. River in Torchwood in the future could be quite interesting...

Oh boy River Song and Captain Jack Harkness...along with maybe Alonso, Gwen, and who else? LOL I'd be up for that Torchwood idea.

TORCHWOOD should be a large network. My dreamteam:

  • Captain Jack
  • Gwen Cooper
  • Sarah-Jane Smith / K-9 Mark VII (future variant/CGI)
  • Sally Sparrow
  • Mr. Mickey Smith
  • Mrs. Martha Jones-Smith
  • Professor River Song
  • Elton Pope (paving slab girlfriend dies a year after L&M)
  • New Character/The son of "Clive" from Rose, all grown up and wanting to hunt aliens

How would River have pictures of Doctors 1 to 9? She never met any of them. Did the Doctor give them to her in the future (i.e. his personal future)?

She doesn't know that she won't meet one through nine, and the Doctor won't tell her as that would give away when he did first meet her ('Spoilers'). But if she's planning ahead, she'd try to find out what his other incarnations looked like (for all we know, this is her first meeting with Eleven, but she's already found a surveillance photo of him somewhere).

Except a scam artist would have probably buggered off in the other direction rather than bonk the Doctor on the head and taken his place in 'FotD'.

I know it silly to thonk she is the Doctor in the future.. but here is that bit of wierd dialouge in the episode about the church banning people from marrying themselves.. A hint perhaps..lol

Also the dialouge of the Doctor going all baby face seems to indicate that 11 was not the version she hooks up with, really leaving only 12 or 13.

If she is number 13, who is number 0?

Yeah what kind of scam artist would do such a thing? I mean next thing you know con men will be snagging WW2 bombs to save the Earth and stuff ;)

As I recall based on her first appearance she doesn't even know the order of his regenerations since she didn't know that 10 was before 11. I can only imagine that she doesn't become a major part of his life until at least 13.

Is there anything to suggest 10 and her ran into each other a time or two while he was off avoiding destiny?

No, if she _is_ number 13, she should be able to remember all her previous regenerations. If this conjecture is correct, we've already seen how the Doctor dies.

ETA: I'm also getting the feeling that SM is going to have to do some retrofitting to make this work. Some of River's dialog from SitL and FotD would sem to cast doubt on the theory.

I think its ambiguous enough that 10 might have encountered her again between Forest of the Dead and The End of Time. Clearly this is the first time 11 has met her but (and I need to watch it again to be sure) probably not the first time she's met 11.

Anyway, my theory is that the diary isn't hers. It either belongs to a future companion, or Amy Pond, or his actual future wife, etc. I imagine she might have some relationship with the Time Agency of the 51st Century. Is he meeting her all within the timeframe of her linear life? Or is she hopping time, too? What year was Silence in the Library set in? The same century as this one? So, really it's more The Doctor swinging in and out of her lifetime, than her going around time finding him. OR, she's a Time Agent, and she's playing a con. She will probably find herself turning good by the end, due to The Doctor's influence, and sacrificing herself (with him none the wiser of her identity) in the Library. Thus, her more earnest demeanor in SotL, than here. OR, maybe she's who Amy Pond grows up to be?

Or, I could be wrong? ;)

Well she does know The Doctors "real" name which apparently is something he would never tell anyone except that mysterious person a very long time ago. So I figure if he told River his name then she can be trusted, at least as far as The Doctor is concerned.
Unless the name is in the diary. The diary is the key.

Exactly! :techman:

Didn't the Doctor leave it in The Library at the end? What if someone came by later and found it?

Clearly this is the first time 11 has met her but (and I need to watch it again to be sure) probably not the first time she's met 11.

That's what I think, too. She doesn't appear to be at all nonplussed by his appearance; the "when you go all-baby-faced" comment was clearly a reference to this being early on in this incarnation.

I think at some point the Doctor must be able to overcome the 13 lives limit, I mean, the Master was able too, so why not the Doctor, especially now that the Timelords aren't around to put a stop to it. So, with that in mind, River could be from his very far future, way beyond 13. We just don't know, I'm not going to over think it. I'll just take each new bit of info as it comes.

I kinda disagree becuse thats kinda of a trapping statement by Moffet, It assumes Matt Smith will be the Doctor for a long time he just can't assume that.

...They would've been eaten?

No, after they dealt with the Vashda Narada...doesn't he leave the diary and screwdriver, right before running back and getting the screwdriver and using it to save her consciousness?

^Yep he leaves them on a rail or something of a balcony before he and Donna leave the library planet. I'm not inclined to believe that she's a future incarnation of the Doctor or a con artist (as River stated herself in regards to her relationship to the Doctor...I think River is more complex than the theories we've stated).
