"Nanogenes" is the most elegant version of the term for these tiny gadgets that I've heard - others being "nanites," "nanomachines" etc.

written specifically to be the "moment" in the episode where "emotions conquer all" is, by plot definition, Russel Davies.
No, that's a Moffat trope, too. I mean, the nanogenes just happen to figure out that they weren't supposed to turn the Human race into gas-mask zombies because Nancy finally said she was the Child's mummy and that she loved him? Seriously? If that's not a "the power of love conquers all" moment, I don't know what is.
At least there was a decent explanation there. Through her admitting to be his mother they recognized that his DNA and physiology should be like hers and could fix their mistakes.

Yeah, that's a bullshit explanation. Why would the nanogenes recognize the basic "Human" template rather than the specific "Injured Little Boy" template then instead of any of the other five million Humans they'd encountered?

Let's face it -- it was just a "power of love triumphs" moment, just like in "Victory of the Daleks." The one in "The Doctor Dances" was just more emotionally effective.

there is an article where Moffatt says that RTDs gets criticism for stuff, but he himself does it all, just worse. Actually it might have been Confidential.

Fans are going to have to live with those things in the 11th Doctor, and learn to detach them from RTDs.

And more effective from a storytelling viewpoint. It may not be entirely logical, but a bomb turning itself off because it can love has no logic whatsoever.

Not going to read the whole thread, so apologies if I repeat anything.

I had fun watching that episode. In the third season I was starting to get tired and annoyed at the Daleks, but from Journey's End to now, I think they've become cool again. The reactions to the doctor were great and funny.

I voted excellent, but there were some things that I wonder. For one, the whole bomb thing seemed to lack urgency needed to make that scene more dramatic. I know it was a race against the clock and stuff, but the whole thinking about love and stuff like that was a bit off. Also, I did read about the crack and the possible connection with Amy not knowing about Journey's End. It's interesting, and another question to be answered as the season goes on, but hopefully they do it in a cool, nonpredictable way. I agree we don't need to see the crack every episode. Also, last week I actually liked when they connected the two episodes with the Churchill call. Pity they couldn't do it this week with maybe something from River.

As for River, interesting promo for the next episode. Blink meets Silence in the Library. I love it.

Overall, great fun episode, nice to see new Daleks, and I really liked the music (Which does seem toned down a bit which is a plus).

One other thing, Amy looked a lot better this week dressed rather than in the Night Gown. Hopefully we don't see the Night Gown again.

That's where I've seen the actor who played Churchill before. He looked very familiar and I knew I had seen him before. He was Fulton Greenwall in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. That's awesome.

According to IMDB, Ian McNeice will also play Illyrio Mopatis in Game of Thrones.

The "bomb" didn't turn itself off because it can love, it deactivated because it had something to "live" for.

Yeah, I saw that - it's probably quoted in a post somewhere in this forum.

Fans who've complained about a number of differences in attack between nuWho and oldWho are just going to have to detach from the fact that Moffat has no intention of undoing the basic rethinking of the show that Davies did at the start. The direction is changing slightly, if at all, in refinement of the 2005 resurrection.

Hmm, I wonder how soon people will start missing RTD.
Some already are, claiming that the show has lost it's heart and soul, and that RTD could write characters so beautifully well, while this season so far has failed to do so.

Which is pretty much tosh as far as I'm concerned. I went back to watch "Midnight" recently, seeing as I'd missed it first time around and there were quite a few people raving about it. It's quite a decent ep, and certainly is pretty tense, but the characters are more characatures than people.

Finally saw this one a second time, and I have to admit I DID enjoy it quite a bit more.

The plot is still pretty ridiculous and nonsensical of course, but somehow... I didn't really mind as much. Once you accept it as just a crazy adventure, it actually kinda works.

Isn't this kind of the epitath for DW in general?

Heh, I can see how some would feel that way. But for me it's more the exception than the rule at the moment when it comes to nuWho.
