NuWho Model Effects.

Yes, according to the DS9 Companion.

Usually, we're shooting one model, and if you see something about a fleet, it means you have to shoot the model a hundred times! Luckily, these were Klingon ships, so there were toys, models, and Christmas ornaments for us to use.

"The Way of the Warrior" utilized some Playmates toys, Ertl model kits, and Hallmark's bird-of-prey Christmas ornaments.

Thanks for the source, Admiral Garak. I'm flattered that Hallmark ornaments were considered good enough to be included in a battle scene.

From the way I read it in the Companion, they were at a distance and just there to make up the numbers for the Klingon fleet.

Doctor Who has also used merchandise-toy Daleks in "Planet of the Daleks", I believe.

Also my favorite bit of Trek toy use is the Klingon D7 or K'tinga model kit parts used as the medical thingy to repair Chechov's head in Star Trek IV.
