Emergency Medical Hologram in future Trek ?

Zachary Quinto won't reprise his role as Spock from 2009's "Stark Trek" in Cryptic Studios' 2010 MMO "Star Trek Online," but he will voice act for an Emergency Medical Hologram and the game's tutorial.

The Emergency Medical Hologram has rich history in the Star Trek universe, most famously in "Star Trek: Voyager" where the program was portrayed by Robert Picardo. Quinto also joins a legacy that includes Andy Dick, who picked up the part in one episode.

While the first Emergency Medical Hologram was seen in ST:First Contact in 2373 and played by Robert Picardo the JJverse film(s) are set many years before and we wont be seeing a EMH for a while.
In the future Trek TV & films will we see a likeness & hear Zachary Quinto in canon as the EMH?

I am going to miss Robert Picardo as the EMH. Even in the ST:Online MMO videogame he could have been used.

Thats weird. I wonder why they didn't use Picardo.

Quinto is the flavor of the week. ;)

Well there's a ringing endorsement! Dick's performance was one of the worst in Trek history. (Too bad they couldn't get Alexander Siddig for the role instead, I forget what the problem was.)

Spock as an EMH? :wtf:

Presumably something happens in the Abramsverse that causes this to come to pass. Could be as simple as EMH tech being developed in the 23rd C and not the 24th - why not use the likeness of a well-known scientist for the hologram? Maybe Zimmerman wasn't even born yet and had nothing to do with it (aw, poor guy, his one claim to fame has been pre-empted).

Spock could become the "face" of the EMH the same way that Number One became the voice of the Star Fleet computer system for centuries.

Or maybe in the next JJ movie Spock gets kill and replaced with the EVH, the Emergency Vulcan Hologram.

What does the EVH do? Appear at critical junctures to save the ship/planet from destruction, only stopping to say "That is not logical Captain", and then deactivate so the Captain can take the credit?

I like it!:guffaw:

Also I'd prefer Picardo as the EMH as Picardo is all things awesome :techman:

I think there should be a EMH in a future trek maybe an updated version of the EMH, maybe like a 3rd or 4th Version of The Doctor from Voyager?

A series 6 TV Trek will most likely have a real life doctor be it human, or like ENT a different species (Denobulan) doctor.
It was only by design in the pilot of VOY that the doctor was killed and they needed the EMH.

What do you think of in a new series say halfway through the first season they killed the doctor of a new series and replaced with an EMH? Surely you would have hate mail as some fans will fall in love with a new doctor character. Probably doubtful they would do this in long term story planning though.
I think we are only going to see the EMH during severe emergencies.
I'd really like to see the Emergency Command Hologram again when all crew are incapacitated though.

What if the ship's doctor was designing an EMH while serving aboard the ship and it looked liked him and had aspects of his chracter (like in VOY)... BUT, the real doctor dies halfway thru, like you say, and is replaced by his own EMH. The crew now are dealing with the death of their beloved doctor AND now also dealing with a hologram that looks and talks just like him... eh?

They were going to use Siddig? How would that have fit with what happened in "Doctor Bashir, I Presume?" Wasn't the idea to use Bashir for the Long-term Medical Hologram abandoned after it was discovered that he was genetically enhanced?

In the second book, Dr. Crusher has multiple copies of an unnamed female personality EMH running in Sickbay, doing triage so the rest of the medical staff can focus on surgeries and other more involved treatments. I'd assume she's at least the Mark III - but of course, this isn't screen canon, either....

Maybe some time after the end of Voyager, the EMH's and all the "living" holograms, will be considered artificial life forms, just like Data.

This could be used in many ways to a future series. For instance, there could be a new Directive about not creating living holograms, that limits the programming of new EMH's or the Holodeck, or even forbids more holograms to be created.

By replicating the Mobile Emitter, the already created living holograms could be assigned to many ships as crew members, and live lives as normal as a holographic man can live...

VOY came close to this idea some times, and I would like to see it completed in a future series...

Also, for an EMH to JJ's next movie, it is just too early. Unless Elder Spock, still in the new Universe, gives to the federation technology from his own time... But that would be too illogical a thing to do, for Spock!

The Emergency Medical Holographic program (EMH) was
developed in the early 2370s by Starfleet and used on most Federation starships in the late 24th century.
as per memory alpha.

Since the bulk of Star Trek XI takes place during 2258 and it is a more than a hundred years into the future that the EMH would yet to be developed.
I don't think we'll see an EMH until the next Trek TV series .

The timeline was already irrevocably changed. In fact, Spock believed it to be an alternate universe ANYWAY, so going out of his way to maintain the timeline would be illogical. In fact, it would simply be nostalgic. Why not lay out some new scientific theory for the Federation? They will no longer have new Vulcan Science Academy graduates making strides in technology. They are already behind the curve, may as well catch your side up. It isn't going to effect the timeline of his native dimension, and will help the denizens of his new home.

And Spock being Spock can't have given up all scientific pursuits because he put on the Ambassador title. I'm sure he kept up with modern scientific theory. He may not be up to date on the latest console layouts on a starship, or the most efficient way to modify the sensors, but I'm sure he understands the theories behind the holographic matrices, slipstream engines, and bio-neural circuitry.
