So what are you reading now? (Part 3)

After finishing Dan Simmons' Song Of Kali, I read Kurt Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions, which was, of course, amazing (isn't every one of his books? The ones I've read so far have all been). Now I'm back to Trek, and I've started The Good That Men Do and Left Hand of Destiny (I usually have one book I am reading as a hardcopy and one as an e-book). I love the characterization of Martok in the latter, and the way that the former seems to skillfully rectify the mess made by TATV. :bolian:

Just finished Part One of Avatar. A really good start to the DS9-R. I liked the characterizations and the pacing. I was a little fearful, as I didn't enjoy the same author's book Inception. It lags in the middle for me a little (mostly because I have zero interest in the Ezri/Bashi romance, which I could never believe onscreen), but it picks up getting to cliffhanger, which is awesome. Hope it holds up.
Avatar is really great. I haven't read Inception, but the same authors (S.D. Perry and Britta Dennison) wrote parts 2 and 3 of the Terok Nor trilogy (Night of the Wolves and Dawn of the Eagles), which are awesome IMO, just like the entire trilogy.

After deciding life was too short for The Children of Men, I read H. Paul Jeffers' The Adventure of the Stalwart Companions, a Sherlock Holmes story that paired him with Teddy Roosevelt. It was an entertaining, though slight, adventure.

Ten Thousand Light Years from Home by "James Tiptree Jr."

The introduction was an interesting read considering it was written before the revelation about who or what Tiptree was... Been fascinated with "him" ever since I read the number of the swedish SF-magazine Nova SF that was entirely dedicated to that person. Nobody writes about human sexuality in SF like Tiptree, at least not what I have read so far in my life.

When it comes to Star Trek I just started reading the Romulan Way in the Rihannsu Omnibus, and finished reading "My Enemy, My Ally".

I just finished the first STTOS: Mere Anarchy story "Things Fall Apart", which I enjoyed quite a bit. Reading it it seemed to me that it was baisically just setting up the mini-series, but since it was a very well written, interesting set up that didn't bother me at all. I really liked the Payav, so I'm definitely curious to see what all happens with them in the rest of the series. Rating: 9/10

I read the third SCE story, Hard Crash. Best one yet by far.
Still reading and loving Pawns and Symbols. Just very slowly.

Am I halfway through Unspoken Truth now? Am I not enjoying it as much as I expected to? Am I wondering why Saavik does all her thinking in the form of a question? Could I go on, but will I spare you?

Had a long plane flight this morning; I finished The Art Of The Impossible (9/10), SCE: War Stories (8/10), MU: Age of the Empress (7.5/10), the first 5 stories of NF: No Limits (all great so far except Greenberger's, and as usual Mack's is my favorite), and started SCE: Wildfire.

'Twas a good morning :)

^ you read very fast, in that amount of time, I can probably finish The Art of The Impossible, but nothing else.

How long are those books? :cardie:

I read Avatar part 2 from start to finish during a 6-hour ride on the bus... and that's just, what, a few hundred pages? Unless you had already read a big chunk of The Art of the Impossible before the flight and all those stories you next read are very short, you read extremely fast. :wtf:

he reads extremely fast. Both Art and Age are longer than Avatar part 2, and I'd guess all the rest adds up to another novel length book.

Finished SEVEN DEADLY SINS on the plane yesterday. Just started BONESHAKER by Cherie Priest, which is up for both the Hugo and Nebula this year. Plus, it has steampunk zombies in Seattle, so how can I resist?

Having finished The Devil In Amber, I'm trying to decide what to take with me on a trip tomorrow... Unfortunately that means something that'll fit in a pocket, and all the stuff I'm in the mood to read is too bloody big...
