Strangest Movie buddy

Whether a newer movie, or one when you were younger, who was your strangest movie buddy? For me???

When Star Trek III came out in the year 1984(?) I took my grandfather, who was 87 years old at the time. My friends were either all in college, in the military, or in jail, so only my Grandfather was available, since I didn't want to go alone.

He knew of Captain Kirk, but was far from being a Star Trek fan. And although that movie is good, it does kind of slow down at times..but he loved it...

Have any of you ever had....A strange Star Trek movie buddy???

My friends complained that I was their "strange movie buddy". Just see the avatar, from the premiere of ST II.

And the person who sat behind me complained about the height of my antennae blocking her view.

When I went to Phantom Menace I sat behind Darth Vader...I had to movie a couple seats down and then some 5yr old kid got stuck behind darth..early bird gets the worm eh?

Not quite what you had in mind, but when TUC came out, I went with a bunch of friends from college. No big deal, except years later we figured out that my wife, who I hadn't even met then, was in the same theatre.

I suppose that some would see taking your mom as strange. But the fact is, my mom used to sit down and watch TOS with me after school in the early 70's, but my dad never really got into it.

Now let me set the record straight, before someone starts in...........


I moved out of my parents basement when I left for college at 18 and married at 25, so .

I just knew dad wasn't about to take her, so for the last 4 or 5 movies, I've made it a point to include her when we go....and yes, my wife enjoys Trek too. For the young'uns out there, yes, there is hope for you.

there is indeed..I didn't marry until I was in my mid 30s...and my wife hated TREK, now she loves it. And why not? She has me as her guide, who could be better?

Well Rob, for full disclosure, I did Re-marry in my early 30's. Turns out my first wife didn't care much for Trek.......or marriage.....or being a mom.

Who knew?

Thankfully I found someone who really loves all three.

You're a lucky man Alrik. I had to spoon feed mine with Trek, and HIS WAY (DS9's episode where Kira/Odo kiss) was the one that really did it. She hated Shatner, now she loves the guy (this has more to do with Boston Legal)...

But having a wife that likes Star Trek is a must!!! If not? Then you'll have to 'find' time to watch Trek when she isn't there and who wants to do that???

Star Trek VI: My dad took me, so he was my movie buddy.

Star Trek Generations: My friend Ben and I saw it opening night. Not being a Trek fan, he was the only person who stood up and cheered when the Enterprise was destroyed. In retrospect, it was pretty funny, even if it was a douche move to make.

Star Trek: First Contact: Again, Ben and I went on opening night.

Star Trek: Insurrection: My best friend Pete and I went to see this on his birthday.

Star Trek: Nemesis: My brother and sister joined me to see the film over winter break. None of us were impressed.

Star Trek New Voyages: A Night in 1969: One of the fan films, featuring Walter Koenig, it was screened here in L.A. so my room-mate and I went. We met several of the cast and crew, as well as people from a few of the other fan films. Pretty cool.

Star Trek: Of Gods and Men: Again, my room-mate and I attended, this time with my girlfriend and her best friend. The consensus was this was a terrible film with good intentions. Again, met many of the film's cast and crew and had an overall nice time.

Star Trek - I saw opening night at the Arclight in Hollywood with a dozen or so friends, one of whom was actually an extra in the film.

My strangest movie buddy was my childhood best friend. His name was Alex King. We saw Star Trek IV together over twenty times. He was always humming Leonard Roseman's music during the flick. Eventually we started quoting lines together. This of course caused many a viewer to shout out "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" I suppose we were equally weird since I forced him to call my admiral all the time and I would often refer to him as Spock.

my most incredible TREK movie moment and buddy? Check this out..

I won tickets to the opening of TREK III. I could only take one person, so I took my brother in law. But he had to drive down to san diego from riverside...he got pulled over half way by a CHP officer. Dude was doing 105mph!!!

Cop let him go upon hearing why he was speeding I KID YOU NOT! Told him to do no more than 80 rest of the way...

Pretty cool huh? TREKKIE cop saved my brother in law LOTS of money!

A friend from elementary and junior high school was my "weird/strange" TREK movie buddy. He didn't like much about TREK but for some oddball reason really got into the third and fourth movies...and little else.

Went with my grandma and aunt to see Generations. 'Course, it was my birthday present, and I was eight, so didn't have much choice in the matter (not that I minded, because I was just a kid, and seeing a movie - you don't complain).

I won tickets* to the premiere of III (Doohan introduced the film for us in the theater) and I took my father in lieu of my first wife. (Boy did that cause some problems. *grin*)

* The coincidence here is that I was actually cruising used book stores looking for Trek books when the radio station ran a Trek trivia contest (you all know the "the 3rd caller who can answer"-type deal). So I whipped into a parking lot I was passing by and grabbed the phone booth (for the young here, there was a time when Capt Kirk & crew were the only one's in the universe to have cell phones). I called and asked "what number caller am I?" The gal on the other end said "we don't care about that anymore, now we're just looking for anyone who knows the answer." Needless to say any real Trekkie knows the title of the first episode broadcast in Sep '66.

It called me stupid for crying over a TV character.

At that moment he was tapped on the shoulder by a couple of guys sitting in back of us. When we turned around we discovered they were two of the biggest biker guys we had ever seen! They were complete with leather jackets, bandanas and everything.

The one guy told him, "Hey! If the little lady wants to cry, you let her cry!"

My date shut up immediately. And the two biker guys, well, they wiped their eyes because they were crying too!
