More companions than just Amy? *Spoilers*

Mr. Sin

Commander
Although Rose was marketed as the major season 1/2 companion, we also had Adam (Although that was only for two episodes) Jack and Mickey join the crew. Plus the middle season 4 had Martha briefly rejoin the TARDIS.

I think we're going to have a similar dynamic with Rory possibly (If script excerpts are any indication), as well as River Song, who appears to be in a few episodes.

I believe I saw Rory in the season teaser at the end of Eleventh Hour. So he'll be back.

Well, in nuWho companions generally do come with lives and families who weave in and out of the adventures.

Hopefully, with Moffat, we wont get that. I dont mind it but in RTDs Who, there was nothing worse than being in the ep, full on action etc etc, then all of a sudden, in someones lounge for a scene out of Eastenders, it just got in the way.

Hopefully we'll just have adventures with no or not many family oriented drama. I know RTD did it becasue it was a family saturday night drama, but it just clogged up the works.

however, im up for a varied companion ensemble, ittl be cool. Rory looks a bit of a wet blanket, but could be cool, after all, hes already been the Ragedy doctor a few times. ;) So maybe theyll get along.

Well find out.

Also, speaking of comapnions, as Captain Jack was The Moffs creation, will we see him return? :shifty:

Actually, I was under the impression that Captain Jack was created by RTD, he just had his first appearance in a Steven Moffat episode.

After all, if Moffat did create Captain Jack, wouldn't they have to have him credited in every other Doctor Who episode he appeared in and every Torchwood episode? Just like how Terry Nation gets credited every time a Dalek shows up.

I'm pretty sure that was the whole point of introducing the aunt and the fiancee that Amy's running out on - and possibly, our friend with the Internet history.

RTD introduced this stuff, I'm sure, simply to make the characters and stories more interesting. :)

Another respect in which Moffat doesn't appear quick to differentiate himself from Davies is with regard to the dictum that there must be a connection to human beings and therefore to Earth in every story.

Touche. :)

I dunno, i always thoguht he was Stevens creation. But never mind.

I agree RTD went a bit overboard with the family drama, but I still like seeing the companions have SOME kind of attachment to their families and former lives. Makes them feel a bit more believable I think.

Watching the Classic show now, it seems odd how completely unattached most of those companions were, like they were just a bunch of random drifters and vagabonds who had no where else to be. lol

Sounds familiar. Just this morning I was watching "Inferno" and as much as I like Jon Pertwee's incarnation his companions just don't have that certain edge Martha and Donna have.

The Doctor has clearly formed a bond with humanity, perhaps seeing in them everything the Time Lords lost in their arrogance and thirst for power and dominance (which they most certainly had despite their attempts to appear enlightened). There's nothing wrong with that, or his showing more interest in them than any of the myriad other alien life forms out there. The fact that they look absolutely identical would probably a lot to do with it, too.

The previews for this season alone demonstrate that we'll be getting plenty of exposure to aliens anyway, so no big deal.

Yeah we'll get more Rory...and I don't mind the "domestics stuff" to quote the Ninth Doctor! I find it a nice balance from all the action and drama. As someone else pointed out its also nice way for the audience to be reminded that the companions have a life away from the Doctor as well.
