The kid Amelia Pond would actually have been an OK compainons

I know, its amazing I say this.

The little actress in question actually made me think that'd be cool, even though I normally hate kids in shows. She'd actually have been good.

Having said that, I started on the Pinotage at about 9 last night and am still on the wine, trying to live up to my reputation as the transporter accident between Manny and Bernard, so I am probably not thinking straight, though I am starting to get the munchies.

I hasten to add the only reason I'm still at it is because Lesley was watching some Bollywood version of the X Factor and I needed something to get me through that that shit - it goes on till fucking two!

I agree actually, thought she was quite a good little actress, especially when playing Prisoner Zero at the end. Adorable and cute without being annoying as well.

How well a child companion would work out in the long term however might be a problem.

It's one thing to risk a young adult's life on a daily basis; they're fully aware of what they're potentially getting into. It's quite another to do so with a little girl.

I agree with Checkmate how on earth could theDoctor even consider taking the young Amy as a companion, it wouldnt even work, how on earth would she be able to help the Doctor.

That could work. Rather like the younger Susan of the Peter Cushing movies. It'd put a new spin on things.

Never underestimate the wonder of a child and they're small.

there is also another reason not to film a series with the young Amy as companion, there are rules about how long a child actor can act.

Not sure how they could film a show like Doctor Who, within those regulations.

Saw on Confidential she's Karen's cousin. Cool choice. And she was very good.

As it's a family show, I think it's good they could show little kids what it would be like to be with the Doctor, even if only for a little while.

I feel like we're going to see her again. I'm not convinced that the late scene with Amelia, sitting on her suitcase, was a dream. I think it's a suppressed memory that was triggered by the sound of the TARDIS materializing.

I'm beginning to suspect that it may be the Doctor coming back to her in five minutes (to prevent her psychological fuckups) as a reward or a rescue in episode 13...

Wouldnt have minded much myself if she had. But i guarantee the tabloids would have had a field day with it accusing Who of encouraging children to run away with strangers or worse.

I thought that myself. Was surprised we didn't get to see him give her some sort of reassurance or apology - though that would have been altering his own timeline, I suppose. Might grown-up Amy have ended up helping him if he had done this?

Am I the only one whos a bit disgusted at how people automatically thing 'omg pedophile!' when theres a grown man and a child in the same scene? Kinda shows what twisted fucks a lot of people have become. *insert appropriate angry face*

Personally I would've loved having the kid version around for awhile. It definately would've taken the show in a new direction. Bring back some of the sense of wonder from the early series.

And if you've ever seen Time Bandits, you know that kids and darker themes can work just fine.

For all we know it might not be the Doctor. Could be another timelord.

Or maybe someone else whose stolen the TARDIS, or Prisoner Zero (or someone) impersonating the noise in order to draw her in to some kind of trap so they could brainwash her or something. Just think, they're going to be in the market on Klom or something someday, and somebody's going to tell Amy she should pass the time by playing a little solitaire, and then she'll shoot the Doctor in the back.

I agree it's a ridiculous over-reaction to say, "OMG pedophile!" if there's an adult and a child in the same scene.

But when it's a stranger entering a child's home, with no parent or guardian there to supervise the meeting? That's an inherently dangerous thing -- and even "The Eleventh Hour" acknowledged that by having the Doctor ask where Amelia's parents were and why she wasn't afraid of him. Had it been someone other than the Doctor in that TARDIS, little Amelia would have been in trouble. She was being a bit reckless there.

And the idea of a man taking a 7-year-old girl away to live with him, away from her family and loved ones and school? I'm sorry, but that is just completely inappropriate. It's pure creepery, and more than a little bit like the fantasies of a pedophile.
