before I die...

Money.

@RJD, I am sure they are scared.

I don't have any money, either. How do you think most people do it? Loans, grants, bursaries, scholarships. It's worth it for an education and a career, especially if it's your dream. What State are you in?

Virginia.

I have no clue how to start looking for all that stuff.

I'm in university right now, 2nd year. I'm 33. What's the problem?

I like that attitude :).

@ Jetfire:
I'm 34 now. When I had finished university I was 30. I used to work as an editor for a newspaper. After a few months I've lost my job (not because of something that I did but because of financial trouble the company was having). Since I wasn't very happy with what I did I decided to do something else. Since then I'm actually trying to find a job as a production assistant for movies. I've done an advanced training, a practical training and I participate in a writer's camp to learn how to develop a script. Because I haven't found a decent job yet I will start working in a call center next week. That's not what I wanted but it's a job. Meanwhile I will continue to write applications. And yes, I'm worried sometimes that my age will be an issue and companies won't hire me because they can get people who are 10 years younger and who are just as qualified. But what's the point? I can't change who I am or how old I am. So I have to keep going.

Above I wrote that I would like to have my own house one day, too. Right now I can't afford it. But it doesn't always have to be like this. Who knows how my life will be three years from now on? But nothing will change if one gives up.
I don’t know you that well and I don’t want to step on your toes, but I think it might help you if you figure out for yourself what exactly you want. Do you still want to be an art teacher? If so, how could you achieve it? Is there an alternative to that job? Something similar that involves teaching or art and that you would like to do? Is there career counseling where you live? Or are there maybe books in the library which might help you to find a proper career? Once you have an idea what you want to do take it a bit further and try to find out how you get there. Evening school? College? Practical training? Assistance? What will it take? I’m sure with enough willpower and patience you could change your life for the better. And once you are happy with what you do you will feel less depressed, which makes you more attractive to women. So the rest will follow. I think it’s important, that you are in harmony with yourself first.

My goals were small. They were what most people take for granted in every day life.

I don't want to give up and I shouldn't...but I don't know what else to do???

:(

Find something that makes you happy and concentrate on that. It's what I did, and now I'm not so angry all the time anymore.

Holy shit, man, so initiative is what your real problem is.

That's from a simple Google search of "state of Virginia education grants."

I had no idea how to apply for grants, or who would give me money or where I could find assistance, either. I decided to go back full time to university at the age of 30. What did I know about this stuff? You have to search, gain experience, and learn. Think of it as the beginning of your education. I learned every day every step of the way what to do. I went to local schools and asked them about financial assistance and the like, people will help you. It's their job to help you. I started out with "how the fuck am I gonna' do this" with only a high school diploma from 1995, to currently being tracked pre-med.

The question is, do you really want to do it, or would you rather mope about it? It's not enough to dream. You have to do.

And you can do it.

I want to go to Vegas and put all my money on red... Oh hang on black... No red... I'm not going to be good at this, but I'd like to see the pretty lights :)

There is more going on in my life now...and as much as I want to just do this...I can't now.

Before I'm dead, before I'm gone, there'll be one. Child. Born. To carry on. To carry on.

Jetfire, there are always obstacles. Chances are, you placed them in your own way. I know about that - I've done exactly the same.

Try starting here. Take a weekend, go and visit the closest university, wander around the campus, talk to the lecturers, get a feel, really decide if that's what you want to do. If yes, talk to the staff, they will help you.

That's what happened to me, when I decided to go back to college this year. I will grant it's a different set up in Australia - because I was unemployed, they basically said, "We'll kjeep you on the welfare payment, but you don't have to pay fees, and we'll give you a (small) bonus". So, I'm back at college, and struggling, financially and with the workload (basically doing two courses at once), but it's only for another 10 weeks, and I'll have a Diploma. I'm 51 by the way. The Govt here is encouraging people my age to go back to work and upskill and whatever, so we can support damned retiring Boomers. :(

Jump, dude! Jump! It'll never happen otherwise! Again, I know of what I speak. Don't be scared of college, it'll either work, or you'll at least learn something. Don't be scared about asking a girl out, what's the worst that can happen? Yopur emotions may get damaged, but it'll heal, chances are anyone you ask you won't have known that long, so not a lot to heal.

Whatever is holding you back, get around it or over it or through it. Don't take any shit. Good luck.

The obstacles will take a lot of time and money to get over.

I will look into it.

I am not afraid of rejection, just not in a position to jump into a relationship right now.

Whatever is holding you back, get around it or over it or through it. Don't take any shit. Good luck.

I will try thanks for the pep talk. :bolian:

There is more going on in my life now...and as much as I want to just do this...I can't now.

Why? If you don't want to talk about it publicly, you can PM me, if you're comfortable with that. I've been through a lot of hell to get where I am, and I've learned one thing...there will always be an excuse, a reason why you can't, a reason to think you'll do it later. I hate to quote Nike, but you have to just do it.

^ the T'Baio is wise.

I'm always shooting myself in the foot, and usually for things that my mind has conjured up for itself, I'm a Master at selling myself short as well, but I put myself through college at 39 and now I'm a Website Coordinator/Multimedia Specialist instead of cleaning toilets and pulling staples for a living, which is what I was doing. Shit, if I can do it, anyone can, providing they put in the effort.

The worst that could happen is you could die. Since that's unlikely, go for it! :D

There are really only two things I can think of right now. One, I want children. Secondly, I believe I'd like to obtain either a Psy.D. or Ph.D. and practice as a clinical psychologist.

Sure, there are places I'd like to go, things I'd like to experience, but nothing else really stands out as necessary to me.

Oh, and count me as another person going back to college as an adult. Good lord, some of the people in my classes look so young!

I've offered before and i'll offer again. PM me your phone number. I'll call you on monday and light a fire under your ass and you'll make a friend in me. I'm here to help!!!!!
{{{hug}}}

I want to sleep with a movie star.

Sure, there are things I'd like to do, places I want to go, but those are all in my power to make happen.
