Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions

A cross-platform game by Activision and Beenox, coming in September:

Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions takes a new approach to chronicling the webbed hero's exploits that comes closer to his comic roots than the other media he has appeared in recently. The game's story, penned by The Amazing Spider-Man comic writer Dan Slott, revolves around a mystical artifact called the Tablet of Order and Chaos. As you can imagine, with a name like that, the tablet is more than just a dusty museum relic. In true comic fashion, it turns out that the thing happens to be an object of immense power that is essential to keeping reality in balance. Naturally, it gets shattered into four pieces while Spider-Man is in the process of thwarting a robbery. Given the relic's role in balancing reality, this is a pretty time-sensitive problem that requires immediate attention, so Spidey is tapped by one of the many guest stars in the game to set things right. On a side note to comic fans, Spidey's mystic taskmaster is an inspired choice and isn't anyone who has been a Sorcerer Supreme.

So how do you go about collecting pieces of a mystic tablet that are spread across different dimensions? It helps if there happen to be versions of you in each of the different dimensions that are all heroic and ready to help. Activision and developer Beenox have taken the opportunity to mix things up and pull four very disparate versions of Spider-Man together for the game.

What's cool is that it seems that all versions are based on versions actually seen in the comics. And yes, you actually get to play as all 4. Only two versions have been revealed so far, though. One is, of course, the regular old Spider-Man everyone is familiar with. The second is the Spider-Man from the Noir reality.

And while neither of the other two have been officially revealed yet, one is highly rumored to be the 2099 version.

Some screenshots
featuring the "Amazing" and "Noir" Spider-Men.

The game will be officially unveiled at WonderCon 2010 on April 3, so expect a lot more info, likely including the identities of the other two alternate Spider-Men, then.

I hope they don't go Ultimate. I have nothing against it, it just feels a bit close to Amazing, if they can get four really different ones I will be happy.
So far it looks good.

I agree, Ultimate is too similar.

What are our options? Ultimate, Zombie, 2099, Manga, Age of Apocalypse, House of M?

The Ultimate and House of M versions look almost exactly the same as original. Manga Spidey looks too similar to warrant using as one of only 4 different versions, if they really want to be diverse. Zombie Spidey could work, I suppose, though I personally prefer they not use him. 2099 Spidey would be an excellent choice, though. You can see the various alternate versions of Spider-Man here.

The 1602: New World version?

Now that one would be cool.

Joystiq also suggested the India Spider-Man, which I thought was pretty interesting, though I don't know much about that particular incarnation.

Yeah, it could be like the little mermaid stages in Kingdom Hearts, action stage, action stage, action stage, rhythm game

Or not. Not much new info at WonderCon. Still don't know what the other two versions are.

We may only know about two of the four Spidey settings to be featured in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimension, but that hasn't stopped GameStop from announcing that pre-orders of the game (on any console) will get access to a Cosmic Spider-Man costume (which can be equipped in each of the game's four "universes"). Like in the comics, the extra-superpowered state of Cosmic Spider-Man will enable a "signature charge attack" that's exclusive to his costume, regardless of which world you're Spider-Manning around in.

Since GameStop didn't release an image of the Spidey iteration from its (presumably exclusive) pre-order bonus, we've dropped a picture of the totally rad Cosmic Spider-Man action figure above -- it's gotta look something like that in-game, right? And no, it's not a "doll." It's an action figure.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. Here is an image of the 4 Cosmic Spideys:

Folks have said that the 4th one is definitely 2099, due to the spikes protruding from his arms.

With the darkness of the third, what about a venom spidy. Maybe a whole new reality, or just one of the old what if's, where he never got rid of the symbiote?

I like that they are tailoring the special costumes to each reality though, not just one for everyone.

id love to see it with him as the symbiot costume that would kool or even the iron spidy suit during the civil war

i dont know what to think about that suit
like the future idea but the costume loojks a bit of the crazy side

It's definitely a cool concept, but it'll really just come down to waiting and seeing whether the gameplay is any good. (No cosmic Spidey for me.)
