Freema fans might want to check out this thread on TV & Media:

Apparently Law & Order UK has been released to DVD in North America ... but only through Target stores in the US. I assume that's just initially and the rest of us will get it later.

I recall the show had other Who alumni in guest roles, plus of course Jamie Bamber from BSG. Best of all, the DVD will have subtitles so we can finally understand what they were saying. (Even for me, someone used to watching British TV and hearing all the accents, I often only understood every other word.)

I got it! Watching the 'organ theft' episode right now. I am having some difficulty with the accents but it's ok. Look, it's Lee Adama and Wedge Antilles!

And I don't see any problems with the resolution of the image or anything like that. NTSC/PAL conversion aside, it looks pretty good, IMHO.

Any screenshots of Freema from this series? I imagine she'd be wearing a suit, and I imagine that is quite hot

How many episodes are on the American set? Because I just saw that episode and that's in series 2 here.

I doubt you'd notice the difference, you're used to watching shows made for NTSC anyway, so they it won't make much difference.

Here's a pic of Freema.

How many episodes are on the American set?

Thirteen.

Here are all of them, as shown on the back of the box:

Disc One: Care, Vice, Unloved, Unsafe

Disc Two: Buried, Samaritan, Paradise, Hidden, Alesha

Disc Three: Community Service, Love And Loss, Sacrifice, Honour Bound

It looks like this set treats both UK seasons as one. I don't know why they did that...

That's both series so far then... I say both, it was made as 1 series but split in to two for some reason. But I'm not sure they're in the same order they were aired here.

^ Here in North America (well, Canada at any rate) it aired all at once and wasn't split at all. That's why I was puzzled a while back when UK'ers were talking about Series 2 episodes that I'd already seen months previous.

I really enjoyed the show (and never had any accent issues), and I hope there's a...Series 2...or would that be Series 3? :D

They actually make people wear those goofy wigs still?

Fascinating.

It was commissioned ages ago, another 13 episodes I think, but whether that gets split in to 2 lots again is anyone's guess.

It's tradition. To separate the person from the job, so they're not there pleading the case as themselves but as the barrister. At least that's what I've heard. But I think they're only used in certain courts now, mostly the criminal court.

Why would it be considered a bad thing? This being Law & Order they could release random episodes in random order and half the people wouldn't notice or care. This way we get both seasons at once rather than having to wait months for the next release. If it ever happens. Just ask people who've been waiting years for season 2 of Kojak to show up on DVD. We'd have loved to have seen 1-2 at the same time.

Never said it was. I do wonder why they didn't just label it Seasons 1 & 2 on the box, though.
Probably because it was produced as one season, and split in to two by ITV. Like Battlestar Galactica being split, only they went with 2.0 and 2.5 rather than 2 and 3.

I never heard of "Law and Order: UK" until I read about it on this thread!

Is there a way to watch this as streaming video from the US?

How about on American television via the BBC cable channel?

Not that I'm aware of. I believe Dick Wolf was hoping NBC would pick it up for a saturday night slot in the US but so far no luck. I think it's a Target exclusive so far.

Question is though, is it any good? I'm kinda interested now that the original is gone.

Oh, and let me take the opportunity to say that I love a lot of British tv. But their 6-12 episode seasons really make me crazy. :(
