Which version will you get?

ive traded like 12 of my old games just to get this. and im loving every bit of it so far. im still towards the beginning. havent had much time to play it this week. but this weekend. oh boy!

I continue to find the upgrading system really confusing. Like I'm in Ch7 and I just picked up a new weapon for Snow, a Paladin. The stats for it are so much worse than the original weapon (Power Circle). So do I stick with the original? Or do I take the new one?

It depends on what abilities you want and also what synthesis group you want active. But really, just ignore that stuff and stick with what looks right with your play style.

After all the negative reviews this game got (from both some professionals and lots of fans), I'm really surprised by how much I like the game. I'm still sour that they nixed the amazing gambit system from 12, but then again, I considered that (along with the very open world of that game) a beautiful anomaly for FF. 13 is essentially FFX with a somewhat streamlined battle system. It's different, but it works. Amazingly, even though it initially looks like it's going to be breezy - what with you controlling only one character and the enemies being real pushovers early on - I died about four times already (Chapter 3) and had to use a few phoenix downs. The shock (or is it stagger in the English version?) mechanic has been well implemented, you need to do that to certain enemies to even have a chance. So there is a lot of strategy involved, especially if you want 5-star ratings.

By the way, is there any significance to the points you earn for battle? CP I get, those meta points too, but what about that other score?

What I'm really glad about is the story. While this was, to my mind, the only weak spot of FFXII, this time they found a simple but very effective setup and populated it with a mostly interesting cast of characters. I like the tension between them and how they slowly unveil those people's backstories.

You shouldn't really use phoenix downs until you need to on the bosses. Although eventually you'll get Raise so it doesn't matter.

The points are just related to the star rating that you get.

Interesting you should say that. Personally, I find the story to be the weakest part of the game. I like the characters well enough, but I'm just not taken with their plight. I'm still hooked though, the gameplay is superb. I'm currently working through the missions on Gran Pulse.

I find the story painfully uninteresting. The 'cie naming thing is just asinine. Who cares about emo boy wanting to kill the statutory rapist. There isn't even a villain in the story. I found the 12 storyline much more interesting and the characters as well. What chapter do you finally get to the open world? I'm sick of running down straight corridors.

It's a good game, if you ignore the too-long battles and the fact that it's game over if the character you're controlling dies, even if the other two are at full health.

What, you spent the last 10-15 minutes grinding down the boss's HP to single-digits when it gets a lucky blast and kills exactly one (1) of your characters?

Don't you see? This is "fun".

You just have to be careful with bosses. The fact that there's no real penalty for death in the normal fights is the nice part though. You can instantly flee any battle if you find yourself over powered.

And the game opens up in Chapter 11... but even then, it's still telling you where to go once you open everything up.

It would've been good if you could switch character control during battle, therefore removing the game over if one character dies annoyance. That way, if the character you're controlling dies, you'll just switch to one of the others.

That's the only penalty for death though, so I understand why they left that in.

I will say, it'd be nice if you could modify your paradigm set up before battle rather than for you to restart a battle to do it... but there ya go.

Considering the XII story and characters were almost entirely worthless, I really hope you're mistaken.

I'd like to play this, but not enough to buy a console. Hopefully there will be a PC port eventually. I imagine they held off on the PC version so that it wouldn't impact the X-Box sales.

You might be waiting a really long time. Only 7,8 and 11 have PC versions. FF12 has been out four years and there hasn't been any hint of it coming to PC.

Just beaten the final boss, thought the ending was great. I've completely changed my opinion on it now. It's definately one of the better Final Fantasy games out there.

Well I just spent 30 minutes upgrading my accessories and weapons. How incredibly tedious. On the other hand my battles are suddenly going a lot easier! I'd actually forgotten to upgrade accessories before now because I'm an idiot. No wonder my hit points were so damn low!

CP grinding is easy. GIL grinding on the other hand? Let's just say there's a reason why people are stuck with 100 hour playthroughs. It's like they put all the boring stuff right at the end for OCD people like myself.

Do the enemy levels match yours? Because now I upgrade my weapons and components like crazy, wasting entire half-hours each time I play, but the difficulty doesn't seem to get any easier! I'm on Chapter 10 btw and wow I can FINALLY select my party christ.
