Worst Time Travel Movies!

As i just and seen the movie Hot Tub Time Machine i was thinking of some of the worst Time Travel movies and did i search and come across this site.

Now to me one of the worst was Timeline, but Black Knight in which i didnt see looks pretty bad.

But the movie Millenium really had to be the worst. Movie started out good but when they show it from her perspective its gets boring fast.

Back to the Future part Two

I really like this movie. Not only because the future looks, but I love how it puts the old events in a differnet light, that he ahs to protect events that we know happened. This device was used in Trials and Tribbleations. I am overall a real supporter of the film. My favorite bit in ti was the fact that, when I watched it, I couldn't even guess what the headlights were at the end of the film after Doc dissappeared. Zemeckis really had me in utter suspence there for a good minute or two: who could this guy in the trenchoat possibly be?

The problem with the film is the really grating exposition. Lloyd delivers his parts well, making you almost beleive that the universe can be destroyed, but I think that Lea Thompson is so annoying delivering any of her lines as her older self. I also didn't like old Biff much, nor Griff. There were many weaknesses in the film.

The Time Travelers wasn't that great either. Although it did have an interesting ending:

An endless loop which we see repeating over and over until it becomes a blur, at which the movie abruptly ends

 

[Too Much Fun]

I'm surprised there isn't more defending of "Star Trek IV" here. That movie may have a silly premise, but it is not by any stretch a bad movie. It is slow in some parts, but there really isn't a whole hell of a lot wrong with it. To this day, I still think it's one of the three best Star Trek movies. Nimoy gives one of his most endearing performances as Spock, and Walter Koenig gets to show comedic chops he never could on the show. It was also very cleverly written...particularly the comedic bits.

"Star Trek" may be ten times slicker in terms of special effects and better at generating emotion and suspense in its action scenes, but it's still not as smart and fun as good at "The Voyage Home".

Also, "Time Cop" is one of my favourite guilty pleasures . I can't deny that it's stupid and full of one-dimensional characters, wooden acting, and silly writing, but it's still damn entertaining from start to finish. Jean-Claude Van Damme inexplicably doing the splits in his underwear while fighting thugs in his kitchen is one of my favourite campy movie moments from childhood. His tough guy dialogue in the movie is a riot too.

I wish I had a time machine to go back in time and stop myself from watching it. The short story and comic book were good stories and there was never enough story to make a movie.

Timecop was actually pretty cool. Van Damme makes a credible good guy, and Ron Silver is always fun to watch. (love that bit where he tells his younger self "Will you lay off the fuckin' candy bars?" ) About the only thing I didn't get was where exactly the hell those huge time travel sleds went when somebody goes back in time...

As for A Sound Of Thunder, it made a fairly decent episode of Ray Bradbury Theatre. And there are some sequel novels floating around as well, taking place in the alternate timeline that it ends with (AFAIK, dinosaurs aren't extinct anymore, and figure heavily in it).

Having just seen Hot Tub Time Machine, I have to say it's actually pretty damn good. Seriously.

I thought this movie was hilarious. The acting, the godawful special effects... I bought it for something like 3 dollars, and even that felt like too much, and yet somehow, totally worth it.

Argh, I made a typo and you quoted me. I mean to say that the new "Star Trek" was not as smart and fun as Star Trek IV. And while it may have some awful plotting, it is way too popular to make a list like that. I was surprised by Star Trek IV being on there partially because I know it was a box office success (one of the three most successful Star Trek movies still, as far as I know), but since that was so long ago, it's easy for snooty people to look back and say, "oh, it was about people time travelling to get whales, how stupid", conveniently forgetting about how wonderfully directed, written, and acted the story that grew out of that goofy premise ended up being.

There was no end to the stupidity in this film. Everything in the timeline is the same, including us getting chased down the street ... but now the things chasing us have morphed from ape things into lizard things!

I'm paraphrasing here, but you get the idea.

As a runner up, I'd like to throw in Timeline, that abomination of an adaptation of a really fun Crichton novel.

And STIV pretty much blew. Except for some funny character moments, the whole thing was a waste of time. Timetravel slingshot? Whales? Really?

you know, i read the book timeline a long time ago, and if it's the creighton novel i remember it wasn't bad. it was interesting that the reason the one dude did alright back then was that he was a larper (supernerd colors showing). now black knight - god, i watched this with some friends once and it was so bad it went to good and back to bad.

the page points out that you can't mesh romances with time travel, but i think somewhere in time with christopher reeves pulled it off decently imo.
