So what are you reading now? (Part 3)

Finished Harbinger over my vacation last week, and started Twist of Faith.

Harbinger was great, amazing. Stumbled a little at the end, but it may have been because a) I was reading at 2 a.m., couldn't put it down, or b) I have this problem with serial novels...I don't like cliffhangers, or at least there should be something that gets resolved if not something big. It set up very very well. I just wanted a little more of a "oh, yeah" payoff. But superior writing (NOT just exposition-dumping, unlike a recent ST novel I just read) and great marginal use of TOS characters.

I especially loved
Kirk's appreciating the new miniskirt uniforms.

also liked the reference to Kirk not being a tall man. I think this contradicts stuff in other novels, not that I don't mind, I think it's funny. Haven't other writers made a point of describing Kirk as being taller than Shatner? Again, I thought it was a fun detail, and I think Mack "gets" TOS in ways that some of the other current (and past) writers may not...

Just finished A Lion's Tale - Around the World in Spandex by Chris Jericho & Peter Thomas Fornatale a few minutes ago. Great read by the way.

Next up is Supernatural: Heart of the Dragon by Keith R.A. DeCandido.

<cheap plug> I'm also reading the answers for my next Star Trek themed Unreality SF interview. </cheap plug>

Just finished Unworthy last night (stayed up late to finish, and feeling it this morning...ugh). Moving on to Synthesis. Just have The Never-Ending Sacrifice, then I'll be caught up. NICE.

Just finished Voyager: The Farther Shore. I enjoyed it, even if Data's cameo was largely pointless, B'Lanna's story ended in a dumb and damaging Klingon ritual and we never found out why Brenna's underlings were helping her.

I finished the expanded The Sorrows of Empire last weekend. I also read the Alien Spotlight, Volume I TPB last weekend. I'm currently reading Assassin's Creed: Renaissance, the novelization of AC2 (the renaissance Italy parts anyway). I'm only a few chapters in, but so far it's pretty good and very faithful to the game. In fact, it may be a little too faithful, especially when describing the main character learning the skills you use in the game (pickpocketing, blending in with crowds, etc), but I'm hoping it gets better. I have noticed a few differences so far, but nothing major.

Finishing Star Trek : Inception by SD Perry and Britta Dennison and very much enjoyed it. An easy enjoyable read. I borrowed it from the library, because I am poor, which is why I sadly had to sell all my TNG relaunch novels to a used bookstore so i could get shoes for new cooking job at the pizza hut..thought i could buy em back in a few weeks.bad news is they are already sold :( (as well as other favs My Crucible Trilogy i loved these, and To Reign in Hell) I seems like the stores favories to buy from me were also my favroties

So I will have to wait until I can find them at the library for the time being and this one was new, and very enjoyable!

THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS may ruin the plot if u have not read it: (dont kno how to do the hide the text thing)

I liked how we get to know how spock matter a factly states "Carol Marcus" as to why he recognizes her on the screen in TWOK, I like how Commander Kirk and Dr. Marcus relationship is explained and why it worked and did not work. Plus i enjoyed hearing the conversation between Mister Spock and Dr. Boyce. The ideals of Redpeace (for mars environment) vs starfleet. I really thought it was done very interstingly. I sorta wish in the main conflict with the mars planet ended in a different manner, like maybe with out the Starfleet help or a commander saving the day. I also thought it was interesting that the lieutentent in charge before Kirks arrival on the station is said to look like Marcus's father though we have never seen him. Strange line i thought but interesting. So off to finish the book and read the final chapter when Marcus is gonna tell Jim Kirk about being pregnant.

So it was a nice diversion from pizza making and everything else. It would be nice if humanity could make it so far. :)

Oooo, can you say who it is with?

I guess at this point it's O.K. when I say it's Michael A. Martin.

Could be a little while until it will actually be online, though, since I have to finish to write it first before it goes to the site's editor and to MAM for final approval.

i'm currently reading through my TNG novels in chronological order. I have every TNG book all the way back starting with "Ghost Ship." I'm currently on "Metamorphosis" great great book. I havent read it in years, kinda slow first half though. Slower than i remember it being. But really enjoyable now.
After that it's on to the next couple of TNG books, "Masks", "A Call to Darkness" and so on.

Currently reading Seven Deadly Sins. It's been okay so far. I just finished up the Klingon story, which has been my favorite so far (with the Cardassian story my second favorite). Three more stories to go...

I was going to start reading StarTrek Inception is it a good story?

Well, I thought it was quite good, but it's a romance novel through and through. If you accept it on those terms, it's quite good, but if that presents a problem I don't think you'd like it. :)

I'm still reading Captain's Glory. Sadly, the last of the Shatnerverse books (for me, I read CC last year) would seem to be the weakest.
The use of the standard-novel-'verse crews of the post-NEM Enterprise and the Titan appears forced, if such a thing were possible.

Nora Roberts' Sanctuary. Will probably go back to Trek next, but I haven't decided whether it'll be Unspoken Truth, Seven Deadly Sins or the expanded The Sorrows of Empire. Might just go with publishing order.

I expect to get back to Trek reading soon (and multiple books at that), but having finished J.G. Ballard's Cocaine Nights I've just started On Some Faraway Beach: The Life and Times of Brian Eno by David Sheppard. Fortunately, I have dozens of Eno and Eno-related albums to use as soundtracks.

Just picking up Seven Deadly Sins. First Trek book (and only the second book, period) that I've read in over a month; crazy shit is going on in the educational profession in California, lemme tell you, and I've been so overworked and stressed that I haven't read at all.

But now: the high school where I work just hit Spring Break. So we'll see how much I can do in two weeks...
