Finished Harbinger over my vacation last week, and started Twist of Faith.
Harbinger was great, amazing. Stumbled a little at the end, but it may have been because a) I was reading at 2 a.m., couldn't put it down, or b) I have this problem with serial novels...I don't like cliffhangers, or at least there should be something that gets resolved if not something big. It set up very very well. I just wanted a little more of a "oh, yeah" payoff. But superior writing (NOT just exposition-dumping, unlike a recent ST novel I just read) and great marginal use of TOS characters.
I especially loved
also liked the reference to Kirk not being a tall man. I think this contradicts stuff in other novels, not that I don't mind, I think it's funny. Haven't other writers made a point of describing Kirk as being taller than Shatner? Again, I thought it was a fun detail, and I think Mack "gets" TOS in ways that some of the other current (and past) writers may not...
