TV *or* Movies?

Hypothetical question. You're forced to only see movies *OR* television for the rest of your life. One or the other. What's your pick?

As much as I love movies and their amazing visuals and action... I gotta go with television. You can tell a broader story over a longer period and delve into mystery and character more.

Television. I usually only like the movies that come out in the summer and December, so I can have a lot more enjoyment of television over the course of the year. I tend to get attached to characters on TV too.

TV. I have connected with movies in the past, but not nearly as often as I have with tv shows. So for me it would be tv. There is more "value for money" with tv versus movies.

Film, reluctantly. If I could take Whedon's oeuvre along, rather less reluctantly. Film has taken me to emotional and philosophical places that television never has. I'd miss British comedies and the deeply textured characterization which is possible on television, though.

Film, unerringly. There are just so many good and so many fun fillms out there. TV may have come of age in the last decade, but that's still fairly fresh. The amount of TV shows I truly love and the amount of movies, well, I know which list is longer.

As a form, though, TV definitely has a lot of appeal.

TV. A few years ago, I might have said otherwise. But the variety and quality of shows I've discovered would more than make up for missing the movies. Dexter, Deadwood, LOST, Survivors, etc.

Besides, as Kelso said, they show movies on TV, too.

If so, then TV. Even if the rest of TV sucked (not likely to last forever), with the series I have, I can be a reasonably happy camper.

I see the potential Temis brings up, but I don't see it on television except in rare instances.

It may be rare on TV, but the long-term storytelling and character development a la Dexter or Lost never happens in movies because they don't have enough screen time to make it happen. To even get close, you'd need multiple movies in a series, but those kind of movies tend to be the big blockbuster types that are heavy on action and not a whole lot else.

I'll take rare over never.

That's all true, but film is a different format than television. And it's a format that has been used to the best of its ability for decades. The number of mature and excellent films out there waiting to be watched is far, far greater than any comparable selection of television that you can make. Film has just existed longer as a successful medium. Television has only begun to come of age. Even HBO and Showtime, which have finally gotten into the business of selling television rather than selling advertising, are wildly inconsistent.

The percentage of garbage produced for the big screen is even higher.

For every 4 or 5 good films, there is a pile of standard big budget Hollywood and other commercial garbage where every line and shot seems like you've seen it 100 times already, and you're left to wonder if there are actually people writing that stuff, or is it just a computer program that writes them all; and a pile of pretentious artsy-fartsy festival circuit garbage by people who think their films will be deep if they make them as slow and boring as possible, or that they will also be provocative and bold if they occasionally show an erect cock or a hardcore porn sex scene.

TV

More sports on TV and it gives me all the individual sports networks and ESPN. And also some shows I enjoy watching too, but you can't get much live sports in Movies.
