That may be as much the lasting impact of the 80s or Copper Age, the heralding of the multipart crossover.
Mutant Massacre
Inferno
Secret Wars I & II
Acts of Vengeance
Crisis I
Millenium
Invasion
Until Secret War in 84/85 the idea of an across the board story hadn't been done. That's right Marvel beat DC to Crisis by a full year. Marvel is to blame for this company wide event to which we are now accustomed.
Then after it, both Marvel & DC were doing one every 18 months or so.
Now this past decade each event just bleeds into the next with no down time that allows for reflection(for the character) and growth from said event.
This is really my BIGGEST problem these days. I haven't even finished Final Crisis or Secret Invasion yet! I'm a good 12 to 18 months behind on reading my books, and I haven't even been to the comic store to empty out my subscription box in over six months.
Eh, it's good that I know the guy who owns it. He gives me substantial leeway. He also knows that when I show up, I buy EVERYTHING in the box, so he slips in some "extra" stuff here and there that he's "sure I'll like". It all works out in the end.
I'm not sure I can say I'm a fan of any era.
I'm more a fan of runs on books, regardless of when they were printed.
Lee/Kirby F4, PAD's Hulk, Moore's Swamp Thing, Vaughn's Y...
All era's have garbage, all era's have works I love. It's the team behind them.
The old stuff is just as fun and entertaining as the new, it's all just different styles. If you appreciate the style it's been done in, like all art, it just plain helps.
