What if 7 survived the movie's opening credits?

I've been wondering about this for the last day or so since I was listening to an audio about an alternate future timeline where 7 became 8 and meet X who then met an earlier derailed 7 who would never become 8 in that way and young 7 marvelled over his good luck... but it kinda asserts that the bodies are preloaded and hardwired more that accidental and lucky happenstance...

So, the big question?

Would the Seventh Doctor have made out with Grace?

Depends if Fox insisted on adding romance. Though of course, it wasn't the bullets that killed 7, but the probe mucking about later.

Knowing the Seventh Doctor, getting shot, regenerating, and meeting Grace were all part of a meticulously plotted scheme to lure the Master out of hiding.

Putting aside (apparent) age differences, I doubt that Grace would have fallen for the Seventh Doctor. His personality is almost a polar opposite of the Eighth Doctor.

1 would have first looked down on her but then been proud of her
2 would have told her not to worry about it, these things happen
3 would have taken charge but let her feel she wasn't completely thick
4 would have flirted outrageously
5 would have been very professional about co-operation with her
6 would browbeaten her over such a stupid mistake
7 would unnerve her by being a moody git
9 would have given up and waited for her to sacrifice herself for him
10 would have banged her about 30 seconds after meeting her in the parking lot.

Indeed, this is one of only two occasions in which a companion was responsible for a regeneration (the other being Wilf, who actually had to press the button).

As noted, Fox might have insisted on a romance (hey - complain all you like, at least Fox allowed the movie to connect to the original TV series and even use the theme tune and exterior TARDIS design. They didn't have to do any of that.). If that happened, Grace perhaps might have been played by an older actress. Alternately, we probably would have seen the 7-Ace and 7-Mel dynamic reassert itself as the Doctor took on the teacher role once again.

I don't know if the TV movie producers were overly familiar with the Cartmel Masterplan. Had they been, I agree 7 might have come off as being more manipulative.

Being SOOOOOO much older myself now... Sylvester on the show, doesn't look at all old ANY More, that there would have been no opposition to him investigating a relationship with a women in her 30s which Grace clearly was, who in her youth to get out of medical school probably had to flirt if not frakk a lot of Doctors in their 40s and 50s just to level the playing field as she put her shoulder in against the glass ceiling.

That being said the 7 years there abouts between Survival and The Enemy Within, were some bloody hard years, that I might even wonder if the the movie trainspotting might have been based on his life because Sylvester looked possibly 20 years older not 7.

They didn't need a younger actress.

As much as I like McGann, it definitely would have been cool to see more of McCoy in that movie. I was never a huge fan of his before, but he had such a great presence in those opening scenes, and never looked better as the Doctor.

The JNT years are my least favorite era of Doctor Who, and Davison, Colin Baker and McCoy are my least favorite Doctors. Having said that, McCoy was great in the '96 telefilm, and I'd have enjoyed watching more scenes with that depiction of the seventh Doctor.
