ST09 critics, why don't you like it?

GIVE THAT MAN A CUPIE DOLL!!
Did he go back in time and save Zarabeth from a cold and lonely death? How about poor I-Chaya? Of course Spock learned a hard lesson about mucking with the timeline in "Yesteryear".

Zarabeth was part of another planet's history that played out as it should. I don't recall I-Chaya, but if Spock knew how it was suppose to go and it was screwed up, he would've done something about it. If he was part of messing up the time, he'd go and fix it. If it meant the saving of a planet, he'd find a way. And come on, Spock's MOM! ;)

If he learned a lesson from "Yesteryear" he clearly didn't apply it in "The Voyage Home" with the planet Earth.

Star Trek XI already has a compromised timeline and arguably one that is in an alternate universe. The only "logical" excuse that our Spock didn't do more is because "this reality is of no consequence because it isn't mine" - borrowed from SG1. :shifty:
Zarabeth was pretty isolated from her planets history. She would live and die without interacting with the others of her race. Thats what the guy who stranded her there wanted. I-Chaya was Spock's pet, who died because of the changes Spock causes to the timeline. Ah yes, Gillian There that inconsistantcy again. Wonder if she realy wound up on a science ship. :shifty:

You people keep getting it wrong. STXI was not made specifically for YOU.
No, it wasn't. It was made primarily for people who only have a passing familiarity with Star Trek and TOS in particular. It's evident all over the screen as they pander to one overtired cliche after another.

What bothers the film's supporters is that it isn't universally embraced and that some of us clearly see the fatal flaws that the rest are comfortable overlooking, or supposedly comfortable overlooking.

These are the same kinda folks who screamed at us because we wouldn't accept ENT. Well, I accept ENT...as a credible prehistory to ST09. Because it sure ain't a credible prehistory to TOS.

I cannot enjoy a bad movie, not even if it bears a passing resemblance to TOS. It remains bad no matter what you label it.

And I don't want Star Trek "a little bit Star Wars" particularly when I care nothing for Star Wars.

Geezus.

Why do some of the movie supporters feel the need to come into this thread and run the critics down? I find some of the criticisms silly and some of the curmudgeon attitudes counterproductive...but can't you let them have their thread?

Heck, even those of us who love the movie know it isn't flawless. And I don't see why we feel the need to be so defensive when someone points out, "Hey, I saw problems."

In another thread, I made it clear I LOVE the movie and how they did it. But as much as I like the new ship design, I think the original design would have worked just fine, and how this has been proven with things like Enterprise season four and what not. Then I had apologists jump MY shit about how out of touch I was and how the original design HAD to go...because...it just HAD TO.

And I'm a guy who loved the movie.

IMO, you won't change the minds of the curmudgeons by beating them over the head.

Let them have their thread.

I didn't like parts of the film because they stopped saluting the senior officers after the Kelvin scenes.

Its also brimming with people who didnt like the film and have clearly stated why. Pick a thread and dive in.
Agreed. Every thread with anything positive about the film gets overrun with the haters. Why have this thread: encourage people to hate on it, then complain if anyone likes the film?!

It is the same 'logic' used in Washington right now: "Sure Mr. President, we will have a conversation... IF you agree to let us complain all we want... oh and by the way YOU can't disagree or make positive suggestions either."

The film was ok ,but boy did the film makers come off like douchebags.

It shows in the movie.

Wrong. I've been following the thread I started devoted strictly to fans of the film and it's been pretty quiet over there. I haven't seen much in way of a disruptive influence in order to start an argument.

So...when does it stop? The two will never meet. I say let them have their one thread where they discuss it unopposed, rather than it turn into ANOTHER unending circle of the type we've seen way too much of already.

Here's proof a quote from Christopher at CRA:
Just to give a sense of perspective, here are Rotten Tomatoes' approval ratings for all eleven films:

ST 2009: 94%
FC: 92%
TWOK: 90%
TVH: 84%
TUC: 82%
TSFS: 76%
INS: 55%
TMP: 50%
GEN: 45%
NEM: 37%
TFF: 23%

Here are IMDb's ratings (on a scale of ten):

ST'09: 8.2
TWOK: 7.8
FC: 7.6
TVH: 7.3
TUC: 7.2
TSFS: 6.5
GEN: 6.5
INS: 6.4
NEM: 6.4
TMP: 6.2
TFF: 4.9

And Netflix (on a scale of five):

ST'09: 4.3
FC: 3.8
TWOK: 3.7
TVH: 3.7
TUC: 3.7
TSFS: 3.6
GEN: 3.6
INS: 3.6
TMP: 3.5
NEM: 3.5
TFF: 3.4

.

Those show that the new film liked above even the favorites of TWOK and FC.

Doesn't mean most Trek fans liked it, but most moviegoers who went to see the film liked it. And it only measures anyone who bothered to vote. I know enough people that saw that film and came away disgusted or at least disappointed. And none of them voted for anything.

OK, so? Plenty of people rate Titanic quite high also, doesn't mean that it isn't crap. :rommie:

(This is a thread for critics. Can we please keep it, even if we are the minority?)

There was a poll here. I assume that many here are Star Trek fans. The poll showed they liked it.

^^ Bully for them.

I can be a very stubborn cuss, cause I ain't given this film nothin'.

Oh, and I voted for the film on this site, too, but I can't remember if very disappointed or crap was one of the options.

I think what those figures show is that the film proved extremely popular with the mainstream movie going audience, which I don't think anyone has disputed ever.

Recent polls this forum place FC and TWOK higher than Trek XI.

I bet I know equal enough people who enjoyed the film, and besides yes thats what those numbers show. According to the poll in this forum, 63% rate this film as excellent.
