5" screen too small? I was messing with demo units of the 5 and 6" sony readers in currys, and the difference was barely noticable. Each to their own, but I haven't had any problems reading off the 5" screen at all.
...Unless you want to use PDF's, which don't reflow and are useless and slow on any reader (you can, of course, simply convert to ePub in Calibre unless your PDF's are full-page scans of ancient books full of pictures)

I don't think I'd have a problem, per se, reading off the the 5" screen, but having tested the 5" in the store, I find the 6" screen superior as far as readability is concerned. I guess I saw a bigger difference than you did. I can tell you that if I had to choose between the smaller screen and the 6" with touchscreen, I would choose the smaller screen because the contrast is so much better. Between the two units contrast makes a far bigger difference in readability than screen size does.
Sony readers are practically worthless when it comes to pdf files, so I either convert them or read them on my computer.

ePub is XML with CSS and other bits added in. So that is actually even more portable then HTML/CSS as HTML/CSS allows for errors you won't get in XML/CSS.

Get the 600. The larger screen is much better. Plus it's faster.

HTML cannot be loaded. But you can use Calibre to convert the HTML into ePub which will keep the styles such as italic and bold. If you need any help with Calibre, go to Mobileread at http://www.mobileread.com and you can get lots of help with conversions and your Reader.

The Sony PRS505 can read .doc, I've done it.

I hardly read the thing nowadays because I have so many dtf books to read, but I think that I might sell it to someone and get a Kindle since a lot of the new books I want are available and I can get them instantly without having to download to my laptop and then transfer to the device.

    Anyone want it?

It's got all the CoE up to Wounds on there, plus 100 classics and some fan fiction from people on this board. PM me if you are interested.

I've had my PRS300 just over a week now and I still can't get over how awesome it is.
    I love mine, too!

    Congrats on your purchase!

Yeah, once you get a reader you wonder how you ever did without it. Just a piece of advice, but if anyone is interested in an ebook reader, take BrotherBenny up on his offer (depending upon price and condition of course) because IMO the 505 is the best reader sony has ever made and it's no longer available.

    Best != good.

<-- prefers his backlit iPod touch with reasonable page turn rates, thank you very much. ;)

OK, I'm gonna lay my cards on the table here. Because of the disparity between UK and US prices, I know I won't get what I paid for the 505 and I don't expect that. But I have bought several books for it and I will leave them on there for whoever buys it. When I get home I will charge it up and see what it has on there. I'll take the fanfiction off, but leave the classics and the other stuff on there. Then I'll come back here and give you all the info. You can then tell me what you want to pay and I'll tell you if I like it, then we can sort out the rest.

Isn't the 505 is obsolete? It doesn't support ePub, the current industry standard format.

    ^^Correct. It supports epub.

You have a problem with the 505 page turn rate? Really?

Yep. Not saying it's an insurmountable problem, but between that & the size (I'd rather have something that fits in my pocket), my needs are better met elsewhere. :)
