First Eleventh Doctor audio cover released

The cover art for the first Eleventh Doctor audio-exclusive adventure from BBC Audio, the Hounds of Artemis, is now making the rounds:

This is the first piece of Eleventh Doctor merchandise I've seen so far and the new logo does look pretty cool. Fans of the audios will be interested to note it's being read by both Matt Smith and Karen Gillan, which is a first for the BBC Audios for the new Doctor Who (before this they'd always had just one actor, usually Tennant or Tate). So this could end up being more a full-out audio drama along the line of the Torchwood radio plays or Big Finish.

Those interested in minutiae can also use the cover to take a closer peek at the redesigned sonic screwdriver.

Which reminds me, sometime in the next few days the final David Tennant audio story, Dead Air, is supposed to be released. Apparently it's just a short one - one disc, compared to the 2 discs of previous ones - but still, it's a bit of bonus Tenth Doctor before we move into Matt Smith's era.

I just hope they don't do what Simon & Schuster did with the first Star Trek audios, which were promoted as being read by Leonard Nimoy and George Takei (and some by Nimoy and James Doohan) which ended up consisting of mainly Takei and Doohan reading the text and a few brief soundbites by Nimoy. I remember feeling a bit ripped off by that back in the day.

I'm surprised that the audio cover is finalized before the April novel covers.

And no, as of yesterday, the covers to April's trilogy of novels weren't official. The embargo on the cover text was lifted officially yesterday, but the covers still aren't done.

The audio is coming out a week or so prior to the books, so I assumed there would be a bit of a lag time before the book covers were released. I'd assumed by the end of next week for those.

I didn't realize there was a difference in release dates in that direction; I'd have thought the first audiobook would have been later.

BBC Books can't dawdle much longer on the books covers; they really have to be printing them about right now to have the books in shops next month. They're going to be on a crash production cycle. Hopefully, the books will hold up.

According to the Product Release Schedule on the Doctor Who News Page, Hounds of Artemis comes out April 8. The books come out April 22.

It's interesting to see how the BBC is spelling out Tenth Doctor items to the last minute, with a final Quick Reads novella and a Tennant-read audio, Dead Air, being released this week, barely a month before the new guy takes over. Interestingly, Doctor Who Adventures magazine (a UK only kids magazine) is still using the Tennant-era branding, even though DWM switched over almost immediately after the regeneration...
