Trek's BIG MOMENTS

Garm Bel Iblis

Commodore
What are some of your favorite BIG, earth shatter moments in all of Trek?

I'd have to go with "By Inferno's LIght" and Cardasia joining the Dominion, that knocked the entire quadrant on their collective butts now that the Founders had a foothold in the Alpha quadrant.

The BIG one for me would have to be Spock's death in TWOK. Simultaneously shocking, heartbreaking and surprising in its simple execution.

Second would be Best of Both Worlds, Part I. Seeing Picard as a Borg on that viewscreen (and having to wait an entire summer for the conclusion!) was one of the seminal moments in Trek history.

RT.

Because of the nature of the show, this is probably easiest to do for DS9. Obviously that series had many big moments, but I think that the two biggest were The Jem'Hadar and Call to Arms, probably the most important turning points in the show.

I'd also nominate the episodes that introduced the most important antagonists - Balance of Terror, Errand of Mercy, Q-Who, The Wounded and the aforementioned The Jem'Hadar.

Call to Arms, although Best of Both Worlds is great too. Death of Spock.

I also really liked When Kirk and Crew first saw the Enterprise A. You knew everything was going to be alright after seeing that.

I'd have to go with "By Inferno's LIght" and Cardasia joining the Dominion, that knocked the entire quadrant on their collective butts now that the Founders had a foothold in the Alpha quadrant.

I'd also say the episode at the end (was it What You Leave Behind?) when the Cardassians turned on the Dominion ships.

TMP when Kirk first sees the Enterprise.

Everything else that's already been mentioned.

"Star Trek"

1) Kirk stops McCoy from saving Edith Keeler in "The City on the Edge of Forever".
2) Romulan Commander: "Only one more duty to perform." ("Balance of Power")
3) Spock's mother slaps him in "Journey to Babel".

"Star Trek: The Next Generation"

1) The crew realizes that the Borg cube can regenerate and Picard freaks out: "Let's get the hell out of here!" ("Q Who")
2) First words from Locutus in "The Best of Both Worlds".
3) Picard's fantasic closing argument: "Starfleet was founded to seek out new life - WELL THERE IT SITS! Waiting." in "The Measure of a Man".
4) "Let's make sure they never forget the name...Enterprise". ("Yesterday's Enterprise")

"Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"
1) Sisko meets Kirk. ("Trials and Tribble-Ations")
2) Worf and Jadzia get married. ("You Are Cordially Invited...")
3) Sisko strikes Garak and they have a shouting match. ("In the Pale Moonlight")
4) "It's me...Dax". ("Image in the Sand")
5) Damar's big speech: "Resist today, resist tomorrow...".
6) Dukat and Weyoun striding onto DS9 after Sisko has decided to give it up to them. The music as they walk off their ship and onto the station is awesome. One of the most memorable uses of music on DS9, which generally had rather forgettable music.
7) Female Changeling formally surrenders: "It's up to you now, Odo".

Movies

1) Spock and Kirk at the end of Star Trek II, of course.
2) "Live long and prosper". "Thanks". ("Star Trek: First Contact").

I'll add these quotes. At least for me, they were BIG....

Dukat: "You might ask, should we fear joining the Dominion? And I answer you, not in the least. We should embrace the opportunity. The Dominion recognizes us for what we are...the true leaders of the Alpha Quadrant. And now that we are joined together, equal partners in all endeavors, the only people with anything to fear will be our enemies. My oldest son's birthday is in five days. To him and to Cardassians everywhere I make the following pledge: by the time his birthday dawns, there will not be a single Klingon alive inside Cardassian territory, or a single Maquis colony left within our borders. Cardassia will be made whole. All that we have lost will be ours again, and anyone who stands in our way will be destroyed. This I vow with my life's blood. For my son, for all our sons."

Sisko: "At 08:00, station time, the Romulan Empire formally declared war against the Dominion."

The death of Spock without a doubt. I still cry at the end of the movie. Also, when Carol Marcus hints at the fact that David is Kirk's son...we all knew all that fooling around was gonna catch up with him eventually.

1. Sisko tackling Dukat into the pit of fire What You Leave Behind. I love it ever time I hear him scream and catching him off guard.

2. When the Cardassians switch sides (again, from What You Leave Behind)
