Batman: The Brave and the Bold reportedly renewed for a third season

One of the posters at TAG (The Animation Guild) Blog reports on what he saw and heard at a visit to WB Animation. One of the things he passes along is this:

I was told by a happy Batman artist that the caped crusader has been picked up for an additional thirteen half-hours (Season #3).
That'll bring The Brave and the Bold to a total of 65 episodes. :techman:

The poster also says that "another D.C. super hero show is in work although not yet greenlit" - that's presumably Bruce Timm's Green Lantern - and he confirms that Young Justice is in the pipeline.

I've been really enjoying this show. I can't quite put my finger on what makes it so appealing to me, but it's just fun to watch.

Awesome news. I don't watch it often but I really enjoy this show and version of Batman. I've grown tired of the anti-social, grim and paranoid avenger that was born outta Frank Miller's take on the character in the 80s.

Woot! I really enjoy this show. It's been great fun. Glad to hear of the renewal.

Re: Batman: The Brave and the Bold reportedly renewed for a third seas

Excellent news all around! I'm particularly excited about a Green Lantern series...

*does the Dance of Joy*

I really get a big kick out of The Brave and the Bold. I was disappointed that they didn't have Jeffrey Combs voice the Question, but apparently he's voiced a different character in a later episode. I need to catch up on the eps I've missed.

"Batman does NOT eat nachos!"

ETA: Hoping Green Lantern does move forward.

I'm just irked that they're holding off on season DVD sets, preferring instead to milk it with those single-disc/4 (?) episode releases.

Re: Batman: The Brave and the Bold reportedly renewed for a third seas

This is why the demise of the network saturday cartoon blocks was a good thing, because, assuming a show like Brave and the Bold even laste 65 episodes, it would take them 4 or 5 years to get there.

With some notable exceptions, 65 is usually as high as they get for children-aimed animated series runs, though. That means the show could end within the next year and a half, and then suddenly there'd be a new Batman cartoon. (Like what happened with The Batman)

Some info from the latest interview with the show's producers:

- There will be a Zatanna teaser in an episode written by Paul Dini.

- Poison Ivy will be in an upcoming episode.

- Harley Quinn will be in the "Emperor Joker" episode. Arleen Sorkin won't be voicing her as they want this to be new Brave and the Bold version of the character.

- The Birds of Prey episode, written by Gail Simone, will feature Huntress, Black Canary and Catwoman. They might do another Birds of Prey episode that includes Barbara Gordon as Batgirl.

- Sgt. Rock will appear in an upcoming episode.

- The Starro invasion storyline that they've been leading up to with teasers will culminate in a two-parter.

- They still don't have the rights to Superman, Wonder Woman or their respective villains, but they hope to include appearances by Supergirl and Power Girl in the third season.

Of course...

- Poison Ivy will be in an upcoming episode.

No doubt in a retro look where she actually has clothes on. The character originated in 1966, apparently, so there should be a version of her that fits the show's aesthetic.

Now, this is a character that never existed in the Silver Age, so a retro look will be a whole new creation for her. Then again, TB&TB's modern Blue Beetle (Jaime) doesn't look very retro.

"Chill of the Night!", the episode with the Spectre and the Phantom Stranger, will likely air in early April. It'll probably be released on iTunes next week, though, since they've already released "The Super-Batman of Planet X!" and "The Power of Shazam!" in accordance with the original Cartoon Network scheduling.

Re: Batman: The Brave and the Bold reportedly renewed for a third seas

Brave and the Bold Harley Quinn should be interesting.

One thing I've thought lately watching BatB is that I wouldn't mind a straight DC anthology toon.

I don't understand. Is there a SUPERMAN czar who governs the use of Superman in animated series? Why wouldn't a DC show like B & B have free access to the entire catalog of characters?

What happened to The Riddler? I thought an appearance by him was planned? I've been anxiously awaiting that. He's always been a favourite of mine, and I'm always excited to see a new interpretation of him. I would have never thought someone else besides Arleen Sorkin could play Harley Quinn, but whoever played her in "The Batman" did a really good job.

The Riddler appeared in the teaser in "A Bat Divided!", the latest first-run episode, which aired on the 5th February. They haven't announced the March schedule yet, but the episode will probably air as a rerun on the 19th March, with new episodes resuming on the 26th March.

Rights beyond the comics can get complicated. Different departments may issue holds, or different projects may tie the rights up. Wonder Woman's mythos, for example, has some rule where they can't be used in guest appearances at all.

Re: Batman: The Brave and the Bold reportedly renewed for a third seas

I'm hoping DC Entertainment sorts these things out. I don't know if they can legally, but it would be great if they can!
