Meeting Shatner - What NOT to say & do

How about a picture of Chris Farley?

Or just ask him to sing a little Lucy in the Sky or Rocket Man.

My personal opinion is, as long as you act like a normal, considerate person and treat the actor like a normal person and not a demigod, you really shouldn't be worried excessively. And if someone is going to be a jerk even if you're polite, that isn't your problem.

Personally, I'm more interested in meeting a "celeb" who is lesser-known, and more down-to-earth, than someone who is full of himself. Someone with a frequent bad reputation in how they treat people is not someone I want to give any time to.

Very good point, I remember I met Brian Thompson the guy that played the Alien Bounty Hunter on the X-Files. Very friendly down to earth actor. I know quite a few people on the line head of me were treating this actor very rudely. Like this one guy didn't want to say Hi to him or laugh at one of Mr. Thompson's jokes. I kind of figure he was just getting the autograph to sell on Ebay to make a quick buck. Just be normal down to earth maybe Mr Shatner will say a few things like Brian Thompson did with me.

We have met dozens of Star Trek actors over the years, including Shatner.

Don't worry about what to do or not do. It will be over in an instant, and he won't acknowledge you anyway.

It depends on the celebrity. I'm sure there are tons of lesser known celebs who have a really bad attitude towards fans and there are a lot of big celebrities who are super down to Earth. This past fall, I met Bruce Springsteen and I thanked him for the music and the past two years of touring. And rather than simply nodding or just moving on, he looked me in the eye and thanked me for the support and shook my hand. And it really doesn't get bigger than Bruce Springsteen. And I've heard nothing but good things about Leonard Nimoy. So, it really just depends on who they are, rather than how big they are.

But, I'm sure you can spend more time talking with lesser known people.

Not ALL the big ones are snots, I agree.

But my opinion is that if someone has that reputation, I don't care how "big" you are...I just don't have the need to subject myself to that. It's kind of in the same category as the people who go to a Dethklok concert (I mean the cartoon, of course, not the live version of the band)...I don't see the need to subject myself to that.

From what I've been hearing, William Shatner is definitely on my list of "do not need to see." Why, if you KNOW someone is that touchy, would you even subject yourself to that? I'm not going to sit here worrying about how not to set off the powderkeg like that sort of attitude is my issue to be concerned with. If being a decent, normal person with normal manners that you'd extend to anybody else doesn't do it, to avoid that kind of thing...then forget it.

(Whereas there are others I've heard very good things about that I would love to see.)

I will be going to this event too and will be getting his Autograph/pic. I think I will just do the same thing when I met George Takei last year. We just said hi and asked him how he was and he said he was well and asked how we were. He then shook our hands and thanked us for comming. Lovely man.

I've seen Shatner four or five times and he's never been anything but gracious.

Everybody's experience is different. I can only speak to my experiences with him.

Compared to some of the other ST actors (Kate Mulgrew, Gates McFadden, Nana Visitor, Robert Duncan McNeill, Marina Sirtis, Jonathan Frakes, Conner Trineer, to name a few) well....there's no comparison. They were all kind, funny, generous with their time, polite, and appreciative.

Shatner....not so much.
