Starting to get Lost - cos people keep telling me to

Solitary tonight: lots of interesting hooks - the Others, a sickness (nicely and subtly mentioned against the apparent hypochondriac with the swelling hives, though if it was something like buboes you'd think Jack would notice) - and Saiyid + Mira Furlan obviously equals massive win. I'd do her. Adam and Eve, and all that. Having said that, Saiyid's backstory isn't that surprising as it'd already been pretty much given away in prior episodes- oh look, the torturer gets tortured, what lesson will he learn? Not a surprise.

The wife and I suspected who Furlan would be playing as soon as we saw her name in the credits, and subsequently that Alex must be her kid if it wasn't her husband (though for some reason I keep imagining Alex The Lion from Madagascar - it being a jungle isle and all...) Before this, I thought maybe her character would turn out to be the one who hit Saiyid a couple of episodes back, but her needing to be told in this episode what he was doing precludes that.

It's also nice to be reminded of the bears and mystery monster, which haven't appeared for a while.

The golf thing was amusing, and makes sense- psychologically they need relaxation activities. It did make the population look a bit like the Golgafrincham B Ark passengers though, even more than the last episode of nuBSG did...

Anyhow, still loving it...

Did I mention how Mira Furlan is amazingly hot even when all mad and filthy on a desert island. Oh yeah...

Love to see your thoughts on episodes. I wish I could go back to the beginning with fresh eyes. Maybe in 50 years. ;)

I don't care if we are in the final season. This thread makes me want to go back and watch from the beginning.

I mean, it would only take about a week, so it's not that big of a deal.

I'm already planning on doing that once the series ends. I'm ready to preorder the complete series set.

Are you listening, Amazon?

Right, a triple header...

Raised By Another - important introductions, and a bit of weirdness with the psychic guy, but mainly this felt like it was really there to have the double-cliffhanger - which was great. What's with the psychic guy's obsession with Clare's baby? Is it going to be bloody Damien Thorn or Anakin Skywalker or something?

Charlie has good chemistry with Claire, by the way, but there's a bit much shaky-cam in the direction (also a problem with the climax of Saiyid's flashback in the previous episode.)

Was thinking "this git looks like a serial killer" as soon as Ethan appeared, even before they gave his name!

Every Good Cowboy Has Daddy Issues - good little thriller, another good cliffhanger too. Thought they'd actually killed off a regular, but... With all this mention of there being 46 folks I realise we haven't seen the old black woman who's husband died since about episode 2...

Hurley's handling of Sawyer is funny. Ah, this must be the legendary hatch, which even I've heard about...

This show is getting really good about cliffhangers though - every episode is now ending of a hook that's keeping me up to watch the rest of the disc, instead of just the one I intended to watch!

If it was me I'd give up looking for Clare's trail specifically and start quartering the island for signs of habitation - find them and find her.

Whatever The Case May Be - Woah, Kate looks great in a tank top and thong. All floaty underwater... Damn, who cares what happens in the rest of the episode!? Let's have more Kate swimming in tanktop and thong!

Luckily the rest of the episode it good - interesting that the beach is eroding so quick - did somebody use protomatter in the matrix or what? She's definitely losing IQ points around Sawyer, letting him keep the case and then having to try to get it back... Still the bank thing was great.

No cliffhanger, unfortunately, but hey, there's the woman who I was just thinking about in the previous ep! Luckily it's the last episode on Disc 3, so I can go to bed now...

Rose has been in several episodes. She's one of my favorite characters, and I think she is more effective in sporadic appearances than if she had been a regular.

Now that you've seen the hatch you'll be watching more episodes at a faster face!

It's different for you because you're watching it on DVD and have the luxury of watching multiple episodes in one sitting, but Whatever the Case May Be really pissed me off. I had no clue about what it was that Locke and Boone found in All The Best Cowboys... but the way it ended with Locke saying "That's what we're going to find out" gave me goosebumps and I knew I wanted to know more. I waited all week knowing that I wasn't going to learn what it was but that I'd probably get some hint, but along came Whatever the Case May Be and they didn't address it at all! Okay, there was one shot of Boone stealing an axe, but we didn't learn anything about what they found.

That's when my Kate hate began, and it only deepened since.

I love these threads. It's like re-watching the show all over through someone elses eyes.

I guess with everyone else watching the final season it seemed appropriate to keep going with the posts on season 1, somehow...
I picked up season one on blu-ray and have been rewatching it. Even when you know most of the answers the season still holds up pretty well. Actually, you notice things you never noticed before foreshadowing things to come. Plus, I gotta watch some kind of Lost between new episodes. I mean, a week between episodes is too much to bear.

.

Yeah, that kind of annoyed me too - especially since I only watched that episode cos of the cliffhanger. Then again, it not ending on another cliffhanger meant I didn't have to start the next disc.

Watching Hearts And Minds right now - will comment on it tomorrow

yeah, so, Hearts And Minds - not bad but WTF is going on with the (lack of) search for Claire? Locke continues to be great, but I figured what was going on with Boone, well, as soon as he saw Shannon tied to a tree. It does seem to result in a goof though - how come Boone and Locke ended up at the waterfall for Boone to wake up? I'm guessing there's a deleted scene somewhere that was dropped for timing.

So, anyway, we get Shannon and Boone's backstory, and it's just as well there was a character to state outright they're not blood relations, considering their somewhat confused attitudes to each other... Which I guess also explained why Boone is suddenly so against Saiyid. (and, by extension, any bloke who so much as exchanges a word with Shannon)

Hurley and Jin's subplot was amusing, but felt like filler. Actually, though it was entertaining to watch, as soon as the credits had rolled it began to feel frustrating - yes we need to know Shannon and Boone's backstory and it was suitably surprising, but what about Claire and the hatch?

Glad to see you're enjoying it! :D
Let's just say don't be surprised if 5 minutes after you finish the season finale you find yourself running to the nearest store to buy Season 2! :guffaw:

Oh, and I second what everyone else is saying: DON'T READ SPOILERS! This is the one show where I don't like to read spoilers. The mystery is what drives the whole show!

I've already checked the amazon prices of seasons 2 and 3 - £15.88 each which isn't bad, though it'd be nice pay just two quid again...

The thing is that you had the hatch spoiled for you, if you watch the show completely unspoiled then the fact that there is a hatch is a huge revelation. When I first saw Whatever The Case May Be I assumed that Locke and Boone had found a case like the one Kate was trying to open, I had no idea there was a hatch until the beginning of this episode. This episode also solidifies the Locke/Boone relationship which will be very important later.

This is also the first episode where Carlton Cuse is credited as a writer, by the end of the season he teams up with Damon Lindelof and they act as the main show-runners from then on.
