The Stand: The TV Show

Joe Washington

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Would this work?

A TV series on the complete/uncut edition of the epic mega-book The Stand.

The show will run for three seasons. Each season will be based on a different section of the book:

Season 1: Captain Trips.

Season 2: On the Border.

Season 3: The Stand.

Each episode will cover four chapters of the book. The show would have Lost-like flashback sequences on the characters' backstories and the occasional voiceover narration.

I see the show being aired on HBO, Showtime, or FX.

Sounds like an overpadded, watered-down, inferior version of the 1994 TV miniseries; just as the uncut book was an overpadded, watered-down, inferior version of the original publication.

I would think making it a tv show would give it more room for the characters' development and the progession of the story.

^This. I LOVED the book, but I was in Junior High when I read it, so take that for what it is. The mini-series was a weak, watered-down "network-safe" version. To make it an entire series would be pretty damn dull, I think, especially if they stay true to the book.

I'd rather just buy the DVD and re-run the Laura San Giancomo scenes.

Constanty 're-doing' stuff just to make it newer or grittier or edgier is a just a whole bunch of fail....
LETS SEE SOMETHING NEW FOR A CHANGE!!!

Wow, doesn't seem like much love for this idea.
Joe Washington did you know there's a Stand comic book out now that is intended to be 50 issues I think. They may be on issue 10 or something by now.

Yeah, you're telling me.
And I've seen the Stand comic book. It looks interesting but I never find the time to sit down and read it.

I dont know if it could really be stretched out into an entire series, at least not overly long seasons. Then again, I don't know enough about the story to say, but it seems to me the miniseries (while good) was long enough, to make an entire series (let alone think it to be cut off at three if it's by chance a ratings success) seems a bit much,

They did do a TV series of "The Dead Zone", another Stephen King novel, but this was done by taking the original premise in a completely different direction more suited to an ongoing series. I don't think the premise of "The Stand" is flexible enough to do that.

I'm a huge King fan but The Stand is overrated, I feel. It's good, don't get me wrong, but the ending is atrocious.
