I can understand what you mean. I think I've done nothing but side quests for a week. I've only done one or two actual plot-related missions.

    Still fun! :techman:

Question: Is this game one where you take turns, as in Away Team? Or is it constant game play like elite force?

It's everything. You can join in on away teams or lead your own. You can fight in fleet battles or solo, accept missions, explore various star systems, there's lots of stuff to do. The gameplay itself is collaborative. Everyone plays at the same time, there are no "turns". So if you and your team beam down to a planet's surface, all of you have freedom of movement.

Klingons are better at PVP because they lack content so concentrate on this aspect of the game instead of playing episodes. They learn all the tricks, tactics and spawn points etc. You'll notice there players are usually more coordinated and likely to work well in groups then Fed.

Bah. Klingons are NOT necissarily better at PVP (done 16 matches so far - record 13w - 3l - and I'm often not at the top of the kill list). The trick for us Feds IS to stay together (that means wait in the same area; and CONCENTRATE and COORDINATE fire on one target.

Do this and the Klingon player will exibit the following behavior once one of two of his comrades have toasted - He'll retreat/try to cloak 8 times out of 10.

As long as Feds stay grouped and coordinate - Klingons usually get rolled easily.

Here's an assist trick: If you see a Fed ship firing - target that Fed ship and start firing. You won't shoot at your ally, you'll shoot at tjhe ship he has targeted (assuming you did change from the default settings in the Control tab). :)

Also, if a klingon is running, and you have your Torps available, fire one or more. They'll continue to track and hit even if the Klingon cloaks as they're travelling to target.

    You bet you will...

I just did. And with a great plot twist.
Although retrospectively I should have anticipated the end of the mission considering who I was dealing with.

You can look foward to more Drake ;)

I just bought the game. Currently I'm at 33% of patch downloading.

Let's see what it's all about.:)

To get the "Wrath of Khan" Admiral's uniform you need to enter the code into your account page on the STO website. Officially you get the code when you buy either Star Trek TOS Season 3 boxed set, Best of TOS vol 2 or Best of TNG vol 2. But I hear rumors that you can find the code online.

Good gaming this evening - decided to route through the EU proxy after days of annoyance with 'Server Not Responding' messages, and the game suddenly became almost completely stable!

I therefore began tackling a number of missions I hadn't been able to do for the past few days, including PvP for the first time (got my arse kicked both times, but it was interesting to see how much more resilient the player ships were compared to NPC ships of the same level). I then carried out the three connected Klingon missions from the Medical Research Facility through the Guardian mission. That was a lot of fun, especially when
Spock hailed me from the Enterprise!
My only issue is that now, as a result of these missions, I've got all of these really good ground weapons in my inventory, and I can't use them all! I suppose I could Exchange them...

I managed to get hold of some quantum torpedo launchers the other day, and they seem so much more powerful than the standard photons. I spent the vast majority of the energy credits I'd gathered to date on a cruiser too, and I might give that a runout tomorrow to see how it handles.

Or I might tackle the Doomsday Device...

Arghhh...I'm trying to scan some artifacts to complete a quest and with 1 to go, the tricorder keeps sending me to 2 artifacts that I can't click to examine. :klingon:

A question for you guys. When you upgrade/buy a new ship, do you lose your old ship completely and would have to rebuy any ship that you're not using, or do your old ships get put in some kind of storage?

No, you keep your old ship, just change to your new as primary at Earth Spacedock. You can go back to any of your ships whenever you wish

I tried out the cruiser for a bit this morning - didn't like it, too sluggish, so I went back to the Acheron. More PvP as well - I'm enjoying the ground missions much more than the space ones: it feels more equal, as every space mission I've been in has ended in a resounding Klingon victory.

    Now this was interesting...

I get a quest to defend Starbase 24 from Klingons.
I warp in and the game crashes seconds later...

I go to get some coffee, restart, login & I'm in sector space.
Warp in Starbase 24 to start the quest and I get 50/50 ships destroyed - 19/20 battle cruisers destroyed.

The 20th cruiser is destroyed by someone and I complete the quest without firing a shot.:lol::vulcan:

Now, see, the cruisers are slow, but they make up for it in sheer size and defense. For example, I can get hammered by half a dozen Klingon K'tingas for a good 5 minutes before I'm in serious trouble and out of resources. In the meantime, Escorts can go around picking off the ships with their stronger weapon power and faster speed.

By the way, is it just me, or do torpedoes just suck? I use plasma and quantum torpedoes, and I don't scratch the hull 9 times out of 10. Even when their shields are down, plasma torps don't do much. They could be bugged. Or my torpedoes could just suck.

I am a Lt C 3, flying around in a T2 engineering/cruiser and although it turns like a beast I can take a pounding while the escorts do fly around so that much is true.

I use boarding party/ tractor beam, plasma torpedos, quantum torpedos, disruper array and a phaser array. I orbit around 10km taking broadsides and work my way into the group. Set the tractor beam fire the heavy plasma bomb and loet the boarding party go in.

Usually works pretty well, so much as my escorts keep other ships busy.
