The Terminator franchise was sold to....

There wouldn't be anything without the first film.

That's completely beside the point. Obviously T2 wouldn't exist without T1, but that doesn't inherently mean T1 is more memorable or worthwhile as a film.

The Saraconochron writers blew it in the second season. I don't know if it was studio interference or whatever but they just threw it away. I can't get that worked up over a wasted opportunity.

Care to flesh out how they blew it?

I stopped watching mid-season. They must have been doing something wrong, because I don't do that.

A lot of people had trouble with TSCC for different reasons. The midseason break was, in many people's minds, what broke the series because the storyline they came back on wasn't as powerful as people hoped it would be. Seeing Sarah shot and then coming back so... lacking... wasn't a good idea.

We can all agree that the idea they introduced at the end of the series was a very good one. John Connor in a future where he never existed and didn't lead the Resistance: intriguing idea. Some of the ideas they had for season three were fairly good too.

It depends which second season you watched. After cancellation, Thomas Decker and Shirley Manson jumped back to 2007 and rewrote much of season 2. You may have seen the original season 2 or you may have seen the season 2 from the alternate time line.

As far as the films go, the first two are my favorite, with probably two being the first, and the first movie being the second favorite. This is likely from bias that T2 was the first terminator movie I had seen. While the movies share a similar plot, there's enough differences so that it's just that, different. T3 is where it got to be the same, I liked Kristanna Loken, and getting another movie but...come on.

As for SCC, season two? I'd have to agree that somewhere along the midseason break was where things seemed to have gone downhill further. There was a couple things before hand that had gotten to me, as sort of a "huh" moment, but I figure that's likely from getting a sudden extra nine episodes that they had to somehow fit into the storyline (and didn't do so great at).

But, that mostly lead to a slow down in pace, and what some see as 'filler' (perhaps rightfully so, despite the fact many episodes involved the list and the three dots in some sort of fashion).

As for interference? I've read the Studio insisted that Riley be introduced several episodes earlier then intended, which lead to a retooling of the season as it was. Then they got a sudden extra nine, I loved getting more episodes, but in hindsight, I'd rather the extra order have been a new season.

I'm actually surprised how often T2 is a remake of T1 comes up, I totally don't see it. Sure, there may be a similar plot, somewhat, but it's different enough to be a "remake" I also didn't see T3 as a 'remake' but the plot was more like T2 then being something new, for sure.

T2 is not a remake at all, it is a sequel, and in any sequel themes from the original will carry over.

Like other good action sequels (Aliens for example, Spiderman 2) the plot is similar (on a basic level all action movies have the same plot) but enough new elements and twists are added to make it an extension rather than a repeat of the first story.

I hope you share more of what you know someday! :)

The first movie is the only part of this franchise worth remembering.

I guess there are all different kinds.:guffaw:

:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

An unworthy response.

T1 was the tree from which the franchise grew. It cost very little but the action and the storytelling in it was very big.

T2 and T3 were merely big budget remakes of the first with little of the magic and ingeniuity that made the original so good.

Sure T2 was innovative as far as visual effects went but the story just apes T1 but adds a sappy Disney ending that feels pretty out of place for the franchise.

T3 simply remade T2 but with a better ending and TS was little more than Transformers set in the Terminator universe.

T1 not only is the only part of the franchise worth remembering it's the part of the franchise that seems to be remembered as it's story was reprised in T2, T3 or Sarah Connor Chronicles.

T1 is the gift that keeps on giving.

I agree with most of what you say, except that I liked T2. The real problem was that that movie effectively ended the story. Everything else guts that. I will admit that there were parts to T3 and the Sarah Connor series that I enjoyed. If anything ruined the franchise, it was Salvation.

Changing John Connor every movie sucked. Not that I was happy with Furlong, but...

If you feel like you have two hours of your life that you don't ever need back, watch the fourth "The Crow" movie. Furlong is the hero of the thing and he sucks like a Hoover through the whole movie. In T2, he played a snot-nosed mouthy little shit well because that's what he was! His acting abilities did not mature with him. If Furlong had been in T3 his crappy acting would have retroactively made T2 a worse film.

I think Nick Stahl did just fine in T3. Remember his situation- he racks out on his motorbike, takes horse tranquilizers to kill the pain and finds out that his worst nightmare is coming true and yet another badass killing machine is coming after him... all in the same day!
