New Dark Shadows Movie

Anyone plan to see the new Dark Shadows movie? Johnny Depp is going to play Barnabas - he has always wanted to do that. There was a hint on Jonathan Frid's (original Barnabas) a few months ago that he is interested in making a cameo appearance. If that is true I hope the other original cast members get to do appearances but I think Depp would be a good Barnabas. On a side note, when they release it, Warner Brothers said they are going to release House of Dark Shadows and Night of Dark Shadows on DVD to go along with the new movie.

I'm a sucker for anything Dark Shadows. Heck, I wonder if there's still talk of making it into a Broadway musical.

I'd love to see Lara Parker have a part in it. She's still quite beautiful. Ditto Katherine Leigh Scott.

Oh yes, Lara Parker still looks great. Dan Curtis and another guy had already wrote the script for the musical but it didn't go anywhere. Maybe if the new movie does good it will start a great resurgence in it. I wear my Barnabas Collins ring when the wife isn't around and I play my Josette Music box too. I gave it to her as a gift and she was nice about it but gave it back, she is not a DS fan at all. I can't wait to be able to get the soundtrack cd's from the 2 DS movies and the main soundtrack album. Barnabas and Josette was the ultimate love story in those type of shows/movies I think.

Thanks for the heads up; I used to watch that after school. It came on right after the teen soap, "Never Too Young."

Is it just one movie? Or a full-out remake of the whole series?

If the latter, I hope they don't go off into all that weird confusing shit like werewolves and reincarnation and "parallel timelines" and all that crap.

I used to watch Dark Shadows all the time back in the 60s (behind my Mother's back, as she thought it was too scary for me ). I'd rather have this be a continuation than yet another remake-- what would this be, the third? Is there nothing interesting going on in Collinsport today?

Anyway, this is a Topic more more suited to "Science Fiction & Fantasy," lightsword, so I'm going to move it over there for you.

To be fair, only one remake ever hit the air, the one with Ben Cross as the big B. WB tried to do something with it, as did CW last year, but neither went beyond the pilot, and neither has hit the air. Because they are unseen, I don't count them. Just the Jean Simmons version.

The latest news is that Tim Burton's plans for Dark Shadows have run into some problems and that he may direct Malificent (a retelling of Sleeping Beauty from Malificent's point of view) next instead.

Dear God,

Please stop Tim Burton.

And please let the milk in the fridge still be good for cereal in the morning.

Thanks a ton,
Vin

I used to watch it with a pillow so I could hide my eyes for the "scary parts." Barnabas never scared me, but Quentin, the werewolf, got me every time!

Quentin was a werewolf? I'm just old enough to remember it being on when I was in kindergarten. I don't remember Quentin being a werewolf. I do remember that he was hot, though. I remember there was a werewolf running around who looked like Snoopy.

Right now it is just the one movie and I bet if it is successful they will make another movie. Yeah, toward the end it got pretty weird but I did like David Selby's werewolf.

^^ Quentin was one of my favorite characters. I love Werewolves.

Actually, I was referring to one of the movies with Jonathan Frid, which was a re-telling of the story from the series.

I got my hopes up that there was finally something official about Depp making this. Until I see a trailer I'm sticking with my tapes of old. Didn't we discuss this before? If Depp and Burton don't have the time or appreciation to get this one going, I think they should sell the rights to someone else. I also don't want their adaptation to be so black comedy or bizarre and tongue in cheek. The Sleepy Hollow style would work though.

Well, so far I have not liked much of anything that Tim Burton has done and I hope you are right, that it won't turn out to be something so dark and weird. Hopefully if some of the old cast make appearances they will keep Burton in check.

Yes, that was called House of Dark Shadows and it was well written. I think it was for people who never seen it maybe - trying to get to a new crowd like Star Trek XI maybe? I watched House of DS last week, it never gets old to me. Now I need to buy the other DS movie, the one I had got lost in a move.
