Star Trek Tech - Which would you have?

Purdy Bear

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
If you could have one piece of Star Trek Tech (no the ships arent included) what would it be?

Im devided between a replicator and the holodeck.

I can imagine the wonderful shopping sprees done with a replicator, deep joy, but then think of the stuff I could do witha holodeck in the bedroom.

I have a long commute (4+ hours/day), so the transporter is tempting. However, I'm a bit like McCoy, nervous about the idea of my atoms being scrambled all over the universe. So I'll take the holodeck - it would do wonders for my fantasy life.

I'll take a replicator, please. Once the material needs are met, I'll be free to enjoy myself.

Transporter. I haven't seen nearly as much of the world as I'd like to, and the main reason is I can't afford the transportation costs.

Artificial gravity generation. It would probably be extraordinarily useful for understanding the relationship between electromagnetism and the gravitational force.

Sure, I'd love to have a replicator, or a holodeck, or a transporter--but the technology alone is worthless without the means to power it, and I don't think those things are going to run from my wall outlet.

Trek artificial gravity, by contrast, is clearly capable of running off batteries.

whatever that technology is that Enterprise is thought to self-clean with. It's NOT the actual ship - I just want the self-cleaning tech!

I can't comprehend why anyone would actually choose anything other than a replicator. It boggles my mind.

Provided that I am getting a WORKING replicator, with power provided and a complete database of replicable stuff, then that is what I would choose. From there, I would be able to replicate all of the parts necessary to make the rest. :D

I think there are some things replicators can't make.
I'm not sure if it's canon or not, but they can make some food and drinks, but not more complex things like phasers, they have to be made the old fashioned way.

On that note, I'll take a phaser.

I would choose a fusion reactor over the replicator. It is heavily implied that devices like the replicator and transporter use vast amounts of energy. If I can't use these devices then they are no use to me.

I would trade the secrets of unlimited green energy for a life time pension for myself and be content that my gifting of future tech had gone a long way towards eliminating poverty and man made climate change.

In my (and probably others) choice of a replicator, the assumption is that it would come powered up. If we do not assume that, then none of the options of the thread would work.

Phasers, replicators, holodecks and other options all need not only power, but the ability to recharge them.

Well, one could say the holodeck, because there's been instances where it seemed to be a giant replicator. I'd say a holodeck, or a replicator. Maybe though, a tricorder...that'd be kind of neat. Or some of the medical technology.

Obviously you have to assume it will come with a power source, otherwise just about any choice would be completely useless. I would choose a replicator. On top of providing me with plenty of objects I would want, you reverse engineer that thing and imagine the marketing value of a replicator. Not to mention, it would still at least open up an entire new age of scientific discoveries and inventions.

Oh, definitely the transporter/teleporter. I have family and friends on the other side of the planet and it'd be nice to just pop back every other weekend to catch up...
