Whats funny, Star Trek is about accepting people and things that are different from us or the normal. However Star Trek fans get all up in arms if you change anything or deviate form their perceived canon.

I watched the movie last night on my cousins HD projector setup, and it's a damn fine romp. The ship looks just dandy, and I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between this model and the ship in the movie. I reserve the right to change my mind if I ever see it in close-up on an 8 foot wide HD screen though. :)

Thanks. :) Unfortunately, I don't think my model will stand up to that kind of scrutiny, though. :)

Pffff... dude, if I had your skills, I'd be at ILM screaming for them to open the GOD-D*MNED door and lemme get to work!

Thanks for the compliment. I know where I stand, though. :)

I have something new to show off, while I had a few minutes after lunch today...

The background is something I reconstructed from the beginning of First Contact, where we first see the Enterprise E.

I promise I'll go work on the Klingon now. :)

Incredible work. I wish I had the knack for 3D art. I wish I could understand the hatred people have for this design. I do believe it was Captain Kirk himself that said "...young minds, fresh ideas. Be Tolerant.

I agree. It's different, but not so much so that it's unrecognizable.

    Thanks for the compliment. :)

I'm sure you're a bit tired of folks saying they hate the design of the ship. Sorry to pile on here, but I wanted you to know that even though I'm not enamored (PC term ;)) by the design I have one of your renders as my desktop. Really super job on this model.

It symbolizes everything that's so wrong with the movie.

An overblown, bombastic, misshapen parody of the original, put together with no sense of what made the original work.

Well according to the reviews and box office returns, I think they did get what made the original work...

Again, great job MadMan. She is a beaut. I keep meaning to model her in Maya one day, I just haven't gotten the chance.

Which is what? Numbers and reviews don't mean jack if you aren't talking about the story, characters and development. And from what the original series had to offer, it didn't rely heavily on Earth being the center of the universe or having some villain with stupid motives do the most convenient plot gimmicks in the history of cinema. If you really think Trek09 reflects the absolute best of what Star Trek had to offer, you're far passed derailed.

MadMan, great work. The ship is still a piece of crud ("That's what we're most proud with was turning the Enterprise into a Hot Rod thing") but you do good work in representing it in high quality.

look, everyone has an opinion, and by now nobody cares about yours. or mine. so just stop bringing it up, people.

    the artwork is bloody awesome.

Even the positive reviews made a point of saying how stupid the movie was, so don't look to them as some sort of validation.

Fantastic work, Madman! In spite of the tiresome hijacking of your thread...
