I don't get how this movie has done it either and I certainly wouldn't rate it better than Titanic. As good as Avatar was it was just a flashy-looking popcorn movie. Titanic had a bit more depth to it (no pun intended) and emotional impact, mostly helped by the setting of it being a true story of a tragic event.

Avatar was just a flashy action movie without much depth.
