O'Brien out, Leno back in?

Why wasn't Jay's show on tonight? I thought this was the last week for everyone before the Olympics.

Well, I'm sure the Stones music does cost money. But it's not like the sketch cost anywhere near $1.5 million. Not even a 10th of that.

Music rights have always been a little tricky. A good example is the NBC Universal show Quantum Leap. The studio had the music rights to broadcast on television apparently in perpituity; they were even able to put the music on VHS, but they couldn't use the music once the time for DVD came around.

I think the same thing happened here with Conan's bit. NBC paid what it took to air it on television (likely even under a condition it was a one time airing), but the digital rights for the Internet were never purchased.

DEAR INTERNET,
...

In 5 minutes I watch the the tonite show for the last time until Leno is gone. Even then it will be ify.

Just the quick montage of great moments surpasses anything Jay's ever done. I can't wait until Conan's new show, no matter where or what time it's on. I'll be there to watch.

Conan's speech showed just how much of a class act he really is, and Freebird was pretty freakin' awesome.. despite the usual Ferrell asshattery.

Aside from Beck and Hill/Gibbons (I can never tell which one it is), was the guy playing steel guitar another guest?

What an ending. Wow, Conan can really shred! Didn't know that about him. All those cameos... I got chills honestly.

I was really moved by his final little speech there too. What a guy to actually thank NBC as the final word.

The man has more class in his little finger than Jay Leno has in his entire car collection.

Well, it's official: the Tonight Show is dead. I think Johnny Carson would have been proud of what Conan did, and I hope that his new show, whenever and wherever it is, becomes the proud institution that the Tonight Show once was.
