The venom against Heroes here is just amazing. I for one still enjoy the show and enjoyed this episode. Quinto is great as Sylar. I watch every week - it's actually the only current TV show I watch.

Heroes is a joke. The writing is bad, the payoffs are lame, the characters are not the least bit believable or worth investing in, character motivations are all over the place, interesting threads are abandoned instead of developed.

It might not be the worst show on tv(although I think it is) but it is in the same tier as Melrose Place 2.0, One Tree Hill, Smallville, Trauma, CSI:Miami.

I didn't watch the episode but reading how Hiro survived and that Sylar now wants his powers taken away in order so he won't die all alone is ludicrous--Sylar for all intents and purposes can't die--and in season one it wasn't the powers but the pre-existing psychological defects that caused his murderous behavior.

I thought this season is a step up from some bad seasons, but it does seem to be running out of steam (only the last volume and the first have the honor of not completely fizzling out, this one might or might not). I gives pluses for Hiro's trial (corny and cliche, but had some humor in it) and parts of Samuel's romance (predictable, but the rejection was handled better than I thought and the expected explosion looked kinda cool). It gets minuses for the Claire scenes and a questionmark for what they're doing with Sylar.

That brings everything to an average, bordering on below average. Weaker than others, but I'll wait the season out and, if they promise the next one will end it, I might actually watch that too.

Another Heroes episode, another episode where very little of anything meaningful actually happens.

I liked the beginning of this season, the new characters seemed interesting, I thought Samuel would go somewhere, but it just keeps getting slower and slower and slower. Sylar as gone the way of the Borg in Voyager, and they’ve run out of things for Claire to do, so let’s make her annoying roommate have a crush on her and maybe make Claire like girls.

But it will probably get renewed since NBC has nothing else. NBC is the new CW.

This show just treads water. There's no direction. On the other hand, it reminds me of most comic books in that sense, so it's not surprising that we keep watching.

I am soooo glad I bailed on this show a few episodes ago. (I do skim these threads to make sure I'm not missing something brilliant) No regrets! :D

So based on next week's episode, how do you think it'll play out?

CLAIRE: "My father's coming to kill Samuel!"

LYDIA: "Well Samuel did use his power to kill everyone in a small town."

CLAIRE: "That's no excuse for my father to kill him! Samuel's just misunderstood!"

LYDIA: "How do you misunderstand killing a whole town of innocent people?"

HIRO: "Claire is right. I must go help a family in Canada open up their bubble tea store. It is my destiny!"

Please not Canada... ;)

Wow, I'm surprised this episode is getting so much hate, I genuinely thought it was one of the best of the entire series! And that's as someone who agrees that the series has largely sucked since season 2.

I thought the Hiro plot was great. I don't read any behind the scenes stuff so I was really convinced he was going to die, and the dream sequence was great. Kaito and Adam showing up was awesome too.

I also like where the Samuel and Sylar stories are going. Claire is still ho-hum but that wasn't enough to bring it down. I really think it would have been a bold and dark move to have Sylar rape her in that scene, rather than just kiss.

Overall A+ for this one and hope to see more of the same from now on.

Pass/Fail, huh? They got that half right anyway. :rommie: The OP is going to have to invent a new category below "Poor" if this keeps up.

this show has no idea what to do with itself

They really should just turn it over to fans and let us vote on wacky shit for the characters to do. At this point, it's impossible under all known laws of physics for this show to get any worse.
So now Sylar wants to lose his powers so he won't die alone?
:rommie:

Hey remember when Sylar was evil because his powers made him that way? Now his powers are making him evil because they give him the "excuse" to be evil, or some frakkin psychobabble bullshit, I liked it better when the powers just warp his poor little mind bwahaha!!! Far less, I dunno, pathetic I guess is the word?

Also, I heard Entertainment Weekly say that Heroes is highly likely to get a fifth season, which IIRC Kring was only planning five seasons in the first place. So we can get a real ending to this show.

That may be what they say in public, but Kring clearly didn't have any plan beyond season 1.

Maybe this was the plan! :rommie::rommie::rommie:

When everyone was trying to figure out how to save the princess and escape the Death Star, C-3P0 and R2D2 didn't wander off to stop a wedding from taking place because it's their destiny.
Amazingly proving that George Lucas is not the worst writer in the known universe. :rommie:

character motivations are all over the place,
Dontcha love the way Claire is on the run from a vicious insane serial killer who killed her dad (not to mention her once and her uncle at least twice) and hides in a closet where the killer can easily overhear her yakking with her ahem roommate and then she starts yammering about how much see feels sorry for the poor guy.

Great characterization there! Maybe Hiro's brain tumor is catching and everyone has one now to scramble their brains.

And I also love the way the writers apparently forgot that Sylar is now "nice" because of Nathan's consciousness - he wasn't very nice when he was sharing space with Matt so he can't be the reason - which means that Nathan's mind is the ultimate reason why Sylar is stalking and slobbering all over Claire.

Better writers could make something interesting of even this squicky material.

in season one it wasn't the powers but the pre-existing psychological defects that caused his murderous behavior.
A short history of Sylar's motivations:

S1 - Inconclusive, but the guy has some serious Mommy issues.

S2 - Sylar was insane before he got his powers; his powers just give him more effective tools with which to express his insanity. If he loses his powers, he's still a murderous killer.

S3 - Sylar was perfectly sane before he got his powers. A bit weird, but nothing too outlandish. His powers cause his murderous insanity. If he loses his powers, he's a perfectly nice, sensitive guy.

S4 - Sylar just wants to be hugged. :rommie:

Somewhat unsurprising that that they go with the least original and least "dangerous" LGBT relationship possible. Hot bisexual college girls… the guys in the 18-49 demographic are gonna love it (well, technically, only Claire is hot. Gretchen belongs in the nerdy category, but maybe this turns on some guys as well). Although I admit that it has a certain appeal even to me. I guess this proofs that the strategy works in keeping viewers on board. Sex sells. "Brought to you by Quizno's!" :p

And at least the writers still managed to remember that Gretchen had a crush on Claire. Also kudos to the writers that they’re still remembering the existence of Charlie. This is important considering that the disappearance of Caitlin in Season 2 was a definite jump-the-shark moment for me. Poor Caitlin… I guess since the alternate future she was left behind doesn’t exist anymore she is kind of dead now.

Well, we already know that Claire tends to be very forgiving (except when her father is involved). She was also very buddy-buddy with Doyle a few episodes ago. What's Claire's problem that she sympathizes with people who tried to murder her? Maybe it's the Stockholm syndrome?

Anyway, the best thing about this episode was probably the return of David Anders. "Your honor, he's reciting the opening to Quantum Leap!"

I'm not sure Claire and Gretchen are actually a "lesbian couple" just yet. Their relationship strikes me more as the female equivalent of a bromance - not much different to House and Wilson, JD and Turk or even Hiro and Ando.

oh its gonna get worse

apparently Matt is gonna trap Sylar in a mental wall & Peter is gonna help him get out all b/c in that stupid vision he had he is supposed to save Emma. Never mind that HE KILLED HIS BROTHER! WHY DOES EVERYONE BEND OVER FOR SYLAR ON THIS SHOW!?? :scream:
its like the writers are writing their adoration of Sylar into the other characters, it makes them all look like crazy masochists.

Yepper. Let's see Sylar smootching Peter. They owe us, at least one time before this sucker gets cancelled. The ratings are through the floor anyway, what can it hurt?

And I'm glad to hear that things get worse. They have gotten so bad there's no going back but if they keep getting worse, we could at least enjoy this show on a sort of Plan 9 level.

I have a crazy theory that one of the reasons they got rid of Nathan was b/c they feared the Petrellicest was turning off the coveted young male demo... :shifty:

Don't forget that Sylar is also responsible for killing Clarie's biological mother!!!

when Sylar was disguised as Gretchen tied up in the chair, and Claire came in, did he use his TK to shatter the glass like that making it look like an explosion? Or did he use that power which i thought he lost, where he can use is finger like a gun? He's never displayed that ability before. I don't remember him flicking his fingers like he normally does either. But i guess that would have been a big giveaway.
