When None Trek Friends Indulge Your Passion...

My work colleague - fellow feature writer on my newspaper - is so sweet about my Trek love.

She just came back from lunch and had been to the Boots sale and bought me a Star Trek mug and key ring as a present :techman:

This is the same friend who yesterday said: "If you ever wanted to go to a Star Trek convention, you know I'd come with you."

She doesn't even like Trek - bless her :D

My co-worker in the next office over is a fellow Trekker. It's fun to take a break from work and chat about Trek. It makes the day a lot nicer.

DANGERMOUSE: you sure she's straight? She really sounds awfully sweet. How thoughtful! What a nice person to work with! :)

I have my spouse - that helps a lot. He and the kids indulge my Trek Barbies and TrekLit and Trek everything else - number one son was watching TNG with me last night and lol'd at an insult Worf made so we looked it up on the Klingon Dictionary together. The family who Treks together stays together!

^ That's awesome. When my DS was home for the holiday we watched quite a bit of TNG together. *sob* I miss him.

I was lucky enough to find a husband who will occasionally watch Trek with me, even if he makes faces about it sometimes. And he bought me all seven seasons of DS9 for Christmas, so I'd say that was rather indulgent!

Most of my friends are kind of weird about my sci-fi and other interests so I don't talk about them a whole lot. But once in high school, two of my friends (twins) bought me this hardcover Trek novel for my birthday. Their family didn't have a lot of money, they worked for every cent that they had, and it meant so much to me that they spent some of that precious money on an interest of mine that they didn't share.

My in-laws gave me Star Trek Monopoly this past Christmas. That might not seem like a big deal but once again, these are people who have zero interest in Trek or sci-fi, especially my mother-in-law who picked the gift out. I thought it was incredibly sweet that she's taken the time to get to know me and that she got me that present (even though she probably thinks I'm incredibly weird).

My girlfriend watches Trek with me, and really enjoys it. She's seen the first three live action series and all the films. Gives us one more thing to talk about and have fun with, although I sometimes get a bit jealous over her Spock/Data/Odo crushes:p

She's fun all together though. She likes Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes, Twin Peaks, Dexter and lots of other stuff as well. I'm the resident nerd in the household, but she was the one who introduced me to firefly.

I do have to put up with a romantic comedy now and then, but certainly can't complain.

You know, I always read people here complaining/explaining how they have to hide their Trek love and don't have any friends that feel the same way, but I've had the complete opposite experience. As soon as one person in the room (usually me because I'm not ashamed to hide it) mentions Star Trek, almost everyone else chimes in that they enjoy it too. I am friends with more people who like Trek than don't. And it's not like we knew this when we met, it came out later in discussion. Most of my co-workers enjoy it or at least have watched it in the past. So I don't know what all you people are complaining about, trekkies are everywhere!

a lot of people make positive remarks about my Trekannalia at my worksite, I think the problem is that most of us don't know other Trekkies as cats-in-a-bag crazy as we are. We are posting in a BB devoted to Trek. That indicates we may be zealots . . .

I'm lucky in that I married a fellow Trekkie and all our friends are of the nerdy-persuasion.

It's when I venture outside of our little circle that I am reminded the rest of the world thinks Trekkies and Sci Fi geeks are certifiably insane.

My wife likes cop drama. I'll watch a little SVU with her, and she'll watch an occasional episode of Stargate with me.

Bottom line: We agree on watching sports together. She cusses like a sailor when there's football on. Seeing as we're Pats fans, there was much cussing to be doe this year. She likes baseball enough to watch with me too.

When I was in Middle School my English teacher bought me first edition hardcover Star Trek books at a yard sale on my Birthday. Then I had another teacher that bought me Starship Creater the pc game.
