Do you actively convert people?

I've pushed Buffy and The Wire actively. Usually though if people get into my shows it's more passive, like that summer when my bored roommate watched all of my stuff and ended up getting herself hooked on BSG, or they check it out on their own just because I talk about it so much.

If I see shows mentioned here a lot I put them on the 'eventually watch' list. I'm working through Farscape now, will eventually try out B5, Supernatural, Deadwood, Chuck, Veronica Mars, and a few others.

Only if I think they would like it. I got a friend hooked on Odyssey 5 and Wonderfalls because I knew he would love those. I got another friend that likes Boston Legal, and I hope to get him into The West Wing.

When my mom was alive, I got her back into Star Trek with Voyager and Enterprise after DS9 drove her away from the franchise she herself got me interested in as a kid. I did manage to get her to watch a few DS9 episodes, but aside from liking the Tribbles sequel and a few other episodes, she never really got into it. I also showed her episodes of Babylon 5 and Farscape, both of which she liked, but sadly, she died before she could really get into them.

Nowdays, I have introduced my girlfriend to Babylon 5, which she claims is good, but I think she only watches it because I like it. It was her that got me into Smallville, which at first, I wrote off as Dawson's Creek with Superman trappings.

Nope. I don't even like letting coworkers know that I like Science Fiction...a few of my friends know, so we sometimes discuss shows we already have in common.

Just by simple proximity (we own one TV) I converted my husband to Battlestar & Enterprise. He also has watched Lark Rise, Foyles War and various Jane Austen adaptations. He usually only watches news and weather on TV.

Amen! Two great, overlooked gems that everyone should watch. I've wanted to get a couple of my friends hooked on those shows for years. (Although, Odyssey 5 ends on a real evil cliffhanger.)

In the last few years, I got my best friend (and consequently her husband) hooked on Stargate Atlantis, Made in Canada, Veronica Mars, Battlestar Galactica (the 1st 2 seasons), and especially Doctor Who/Torchwood. They've become such Doctor Who fanatics that they adjusted their cable package to get BBC America. One of them even got a new vanity license plate that says "TME LRD." That's become a mutually beneficial relationship, since I ended up borrowing their copy of the 1st season of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

On the flip side, she's managed to get me interested in Legend of the Seeker & Supernatural. However, their efforts to get me to watch Scrubs & Sports Night leave me cold. Although, I'd be willing to try if they'd try Red Dwarf or Star Trek: Deep Space 9.

I remember when I was very young, sitting on the couch with my dad, watching Star Trek: The Next Generation. Little did he know how obsessed I would become with the entire franchise just a few years later.

Done a lot of converting some of it actively, others by accident. Probably my most successful active converting was for the UK show, Coupling. Of my friends and family I have convinced to watch it, none have been disappointed.

I actually tend to push a lot of UK shows. Our commercial free-2-air stations pretty much cram their timetables with US shows and only our public broadcaster, ABC, really shows a decent amount of UK stuff so it is generally less well known as it is advertised to within a centimetre of its life.

If it's something I think they will probably like then I'll plug it. Otherwise, not actively, no. I have converted two friends of mine into fans of Japanese animation though.

Not really. I share my thoughts on my favorite shows with friends and/or try to invite my wife and kids to enjoy some of my favorite shows/movies but I certainly don't hold it against them if they don't end up enjoying them as much as I do.
