Your Favorite TOS Movie Era reads?

I haven't read "The Fearful Summons", but i've heard that it was a major disappointment (the main reason why I haven't read it). Too bad, considering that I really enjoyed TUC :(...

Something about it being way too Kirk-centric, as I recall. Still haven;t read it.

Not about Kirk-centrism.

It's the novel equivalent of the 1960s Gold Key comics. It was good at inducing WTF!? moments, not good at telling a believable story with recognizable characters.

I enjoyed Sarek by A.C. Crispin and I liked Probe as well(though it's been ages since I read it). I also need to get around to reading Spock's World some day.

Ex Machina, no contest. It feels like a real follow up to TMP.

Captain's Daughter is entertaining enough, though bogged down by Peter David feeling the need to "explain" Demora Sulu's birth. The origins he assigns her undermine the point made in Generations that Sulu found time to have a family. He apparently assumed that because we never saw Sulu's wife that he must not have one. Lame.

I totally agree on the Peter David stuff. The book's okay, but I'd have preferred a regular wife and kid story. Something where Sulu was just an absent father would have been nice. Like, he has a family but Starfleet and command pulled him away and that strained his relationship with his daughter. What we got was just too convoluted for my tastes.

I've been wanting to read that for quite a while(i.e. years :p) now. Luckily, I'm off work tomarrow, so I'll have check my local used book store(I was planning to go tomarrow anyway).

This may be a silly question, but would the Lost Years books(The Lost Years, A Flag Full of Stars, Tratior Winds, and Recovery) be considered move era?

Sorry about the double post, my browser went screwy for a second.

^ those books all happen in between the end of the 5YM and the beginning of TMP. So I would have to say NO. They are in the in-between phase...

Oh, see, I would disagree, because they deal with leading up to the movie era.

You say you disagree, but It's right there in your post. "Leading up to the movie era". That implies that it is set apart from the movie era.

I'm speaking of something pretty subjective. If there are elements (e.g. the new uniforms) from the movies, that would link it to the movie era. Only in my opinion.
