Where were you when you heard that JFK was shot?

The "Over 40s" thread made me think about this. Everyone remembers where they were when they heard about JFK being shot.

I was in kindergarden, in Queens, NY, in the auditorium in school. We had all gathered in there to watch a special (on a small black and white television) on kangaroos in Australia.

Suddenly the broadcast broke to the news that Kennedy had been shot. The kid next to me (i still remember his name, Nicholas) turned to me and said, "The President's been shot!" and me, being a bear of little brain, who didn't quite "get it", replied "That's not funny!".

We were quickly ushered back to our classrooms and then dismissed for the day. I walked home to find both of my parents home, in front of the television, crying.

I'd be interesting in hearing your stories of your memories of that moment in time....

I was somewhere deep inside one of my mother's ovaries awaiting fertilization, about 15 years and a month away.

My story is almost identical to yours, except I was in first grade and it was a catholic school. JFK was a catholic, too, so as you can imagine, the nuns were just in grief. When I got home, it was just my Mom, who had worked on the campaign, at home crying.

I was exactly two months old that day, so my memories are a little vague. :) I have better recollection of later events like the first Moon landing and the attack on the Munich Olympics (funny story - the news kept talking about "guerillas", so my first thought was of apes running amok!) If I really push my memories, I think I can remember reports of the Six Day War in the Middle East.

Similar story for me.

My 'where were you when...' moments are when the Challenger exploded, when Magic announced he had HIV, the OKC bombings, and 9/11.

Yeah, i also have the Challenger, OKC, 9/11 and Lennon being shot as my other "where were you" moments.

I was born into a world where JFK had always been a martyr. It was always part of my world - sad as it is.

My first big "where were you" incident was Aug 1977 - I was 10 - my brothers and I were bouncing around the back seat of my Grandparents enormous sedan when the announcement of Elvis death came on the radio. My Grandpa didn't believe it but my Grandma burst into tears. We all fell silent and drove home to the sound of my Grandma sobbing.

I was exactly four months old that day . . . so ditto on the memories.

I remember the Moon landing, watching Star Trek, and my first "big" memories are accidentally letting the dog out or walking with my Mom to pick up my brother and sister from school. Remembering my bedroom was painted lavendar isn't "big."

I was six and a half years away from birth. My first historical memory was Nixon's resignation 11 years later. I was four when that happened.

I was nine months old, my folks have pictures of me in front of the TV that day.

In a crib in North Caroilna, was 6 months old at the time.

I was not even remotely born yet. My parents were only in 4th grade.

I don't really know. Both my parents were only two years old at the time.

I think when I was a baby and my parents were teaching some American history. I imagine...

Ok. I am now signing myself into a nursing home......
WTF???? Where are all you OVER 50 people???

I was in second grade of a Catholic school. The principal announced that the President had been shot and dismissed the school. I went home and watched TV the rest of the afternoon with my mother. Perhaps my clearest memory was that 'numb with shock' feeling and thinking that things weren't supposed to be this way.
